Savvy Saturday ~ A Wreath for the Cooler Seasons   Saturday, August 27, 2011
by Kazan Clark   Post Type: Mixed Media

The cooler seasons, for many, are just a couple of months away which means Fall decorating at our house will begin in earnest before I know it.  My project is a mini-wreath that can be used to adorn a mantel or window from Fall to Christmas and those holiday celebrations in between!

tutorial for Spellbinders Anemone flower

Cut the flower shapes from black cardstock and patterned paper using the two smaller die templates from the Anemone Flower Topper set.  The size of the wreath will determine how many flowers to cut.  For my 6"(15cm) wreath I cut 5 black and 5 patterned flower shapes.  Fold the petals in desired directions to achieve different dimensional flowers.

Tip

To save time, Spellbinders die templates allow you to cut multiple shapes simultaneously using the same die template.  I was able to layer two sheets of cardstock and two sheets of patterned paper over each die template and cut the shape with one pass through the Spellbinders Grand Calibur machine.  The success of this method will depend on the weight of the cardstock and the intricacy of the die template.

To assemble my flower I adhered two layers of foam squares to the black flower (this gave my flower added height and dimension).  After adding the smaller flower to the base flower I adhered a decorative button using Glue Dots.

After wrapping the styrofoam wreath with ribbon I tied a decorative bow to the top of my wreath.  Cut/emboss green leaves from the Foliage set.  Adhere the leaves to the project with Glue Dots.  To complete my project I adhered the Anemone flower embellishment to my wreath.

Spellbinders Design Team member, Christine Emberson created this beautiful layout celebrating Autumn.

I love the way the leaves from the Foliage set gently frame her picture and how they flutter up as butterflies - so clever!  For details on how Christine created her layout please visit the gallery project titled: Autumn

I hope you have fun creating beautiful decor items for your home. Thank you for spending part of your day with us.

Hugs

This gives me ideas to use all kinds of Spellbinders dies; Nestabilities, Shapeabilities, etc., to create many "one-of-a-kind" wreaths.  Thanks so much for the beautiful project. :)

I wanted to first thank all the awesome ladies who came out to see me at the Great Lakes Novi Mega Meet this past weekend.... It was exciting to see so many old friends and new ones!!

It truly warms my heart to know how many Spellbinders fans are in Michigan and many of you are from the beginning days of my company. You remember when my Mom Mary and I were on the road together and the Spellbinders brand was the new kid on the block....
