Wings of Hope Card Box   Thursday, February 09, 2012

I am a firm believer in giving back ~  Giving of your time, your talents, your donations, your energy, and your support.  I am a Counselor, as well as a Boys and Girls Club Board Member.  I also volunteer to scrapbook with kids in the community whenever I can.  Helping others, volunteering and giving, all help to fill my soul.  My worries seem small, and my blessings large.

Spellbinders Paper Arts™ is a company that believes in giving too.  They are continually giving back to others.  You may have read about the trip to Haiti, or listened to Stacey talk about empowering woman as she is introducing you to a rising entrepreneur.   The list is long when it comes to Spellbinders giving back to others, and I am ever so grateful to work for a company that has such a big heart.

The Wings of Hope die template set falls right in line with Spellbinders tradition of generosity.  Spellbinders is donating 15% of the sales from this die template set to the Charity Wings Organization!

These die templates were recently released at CHA Winter 2012, and were a huge hit!  I must say it is one of my favorite new releases.

I have a million ideas for these die templates written down in my journal....but for today...I wanted to share my Wings of Hope Card Box with you.

This box is perfect for holding all your special cards.

Here is a supply list ~

Spellbinders Paper Arts:

Other:

Sheer paint mist

Project Instructions:

I began by misting and painting my wooden box.  This box measures approximately 6x5x5" and is a natural unprimed wood.  It soaks up the mist beautifully and you can still see the wood grain.  I set the box aside to dry.

I embossed 4 pieces of the craft foil with my favorite M-bossibilities pattern, and then trimmed each piece to fit the 4 side panels of the wooden box, leaving about a 1/4" around each panel.

The Wings of Hope die template set was used to cut/emboss white cardstock.  Then, I used the die templates as a stencil and applied fluid chalk ink to the embossed areas.

I used word patterned paper that featured black type with a white background to trim the bottom sides of the box.  I misted the paper and trimmed strips to about 1/4" x 12" and adhered them around the box.  I misted more paper and cut/embossed three of the Butterfly Circles and adhered one to the front three sides of the box.

Classic Hearts were cut/embossed from white cardstock and painted with a stained glass paint and allowed to dry.

A Butterfly was adhered to the center of each circle and the wings were folded up just slightly for a 3 dimensional look.

I alternated the Butterflies for a distinctive visual look.  The stenciling on the embossed areas really add a nice contrast.

I layered strips of the misted paper and the remaining die templates onto the lid of the box.  I folded up the angel wings slightly.

That's all there is to creating a one of a kind card box.  To learn more about Spellbinders and Wings of Hope die templates read the article.

I hope I have inspired you to get out there and volunteer or give back to your community and make a difference.  I promise you, it will be an amazing and fulfilling experience!  Please let us know kinds of "giving" you are doing on our Facebook Page.  We'd love to be inspired by you as well!

Thanks so much for stopping by the Spellbinders Blog today!  Have a fabulous week!

Holly, such a beautiful box, I love the inking of the embossed areas on the butterfly.  It is so nice to hear of others giving, I support a local charity for young adults with learning difficulties, I donate cards and I have also been asked to design cards for a possible chart workshop that they are hoping to host in the near future..that will be a challenge as it is not an affluent area, so crafts so will have to try and find everyday items that all can afford!

When I travel the world, I am reminded of how truly awesome the United States is and the freedom we all have.

It’s because we have people who are willing to stand up and say “This is America and we will not bend.”

So Thank You for all you do and I will never forget the sacrifices that make me proud to say, I am an American.

See the entire Happy Memorial Day post.
