Hair Barrettes that are Pretty Grand   Tuesday, February 28, 2012

Easter and Spring are just around the corner!  I look forward to this time of year because my crafty projects take on a whole new direction as I seek out my pastel colors, pretty embellishments and Spellbinders™flower die templates. Did you know that together with the Grand Calibur® die cutting machine, that Spellbinders die templates can cut through felt?  On today's project I will show you how to create pretty hair barrettes using pure wool felt and just a few other basic supplies - all in time for Easter and Spring!

Hair Barrette clips, pure wool felt, needle & thread.

I purchased my hair barrettes from a general craft store and the pure wool felt was easier to find from speciality knitting stores.  The pure wool felt has a very clean neat edge when cut with Spellbinders die templates. The end results are achieved effortlessly and look beautiful.

I trimmed a piece of felt to fit over my die template and cut several shapes out at once using my Grand Calibur machine.

After hand stitching my petals and leaves to one another I adhered a strip of Scor-Tape to my barrette and adhered a section of felt to the top.  I hand stitched my flower to the base of the barrette and finished off each flower with different embellishments such as brads, buttons and felt balls.

Here is a picture of my youngest daughter showing off Mommy's creations.  They were really super easy to put together and I think the end result is more than fabulous.  Girl's hair accessories can be a costly endeavor (especially with two under the age of 8!) so this venture is not only fun but I think pretty special too - because Mommy made them :)

Thanks for popping in today.

Hugs

Wow Kazan, these are so cute.  I definitely have to try this.  I think my twin granddaughters will love them.  They are only 2 yrs old, so I don't know how long they will actually leave them in each others hair, but it is worth a try.  I also plan to make a few for my two neices who are both girly girls and love this sort of thing.  Thanks for the how-to. I have been wanting to do this for a while now, and they will make great little gifts just in time for Easter.

I adore all items from Spellbinder and have many, until now.  This Grand Peony die is gorgeous and had hoped to purchase it until I saw the price.  This particular set of dies go for $59.99.  Come on 60 dollars!!!!!  Be realistic...  todays economy is grim, who in their right mind can be so extravagant?  Not the average card maker/scrapbooker that's for sure!  It makes me so sad to realize I can no longer afford them.  The pricing is totally out of hand! What is the average crafter to do?

Beautiful as usual, Kazan. I do not have this particular die set, but I bet this idea would also look beautiful cut with the Rose Creations die set.  I appreciate the tip on finding the wool felt.   The color selection at the local fabric stores were not nearly as pretty as I had hoped.

When I travel the world, I am reminded of how truly awesome the United States is and the freedom we all have.

It’s because we have people who are willing to stand up and say “This is America and we will not bend.”

So Thank You for all you do and I will never forget the sacrifices that make me proud to say, I am an American.
