Illuminating Impressabilitiesâ„¢
Very pretty Savvy Saturday Luminary, Margie!
I chose to embellish a pillar candle with a New Year’s theme. How did 2010 get here so fast? Wasn’t it just last year we were fussing about Y2K? Despite all the technology, we can still enjoy the light of a candle. Not just any candle, mind you, an embellished candle!

I started with a pillar candle (Holiday clearance priced!) and removed the plastic wrappers. I took a piece of white tissue paper that wasn’t wrinkled and embossed it with the I2-1009 Flourish Impressabilitiesâ„¢ in my Wizardâ„¢. I left the Impressabilitiesâ„¢ on the paper and airbrushed it with a black Copic Sketch Marker and my Air Brush System. I did this three times for three sheets. I trimmed the top edges with scissors and gently tore the sides with my fingers.
I melted beeswax. When it was hot I positioned one sheet of tissue paper onto the candle and brushed a layer of beeswax over it.  I slightly overlapped the seams and repeated the process until the candle was covered.
My heat gun and brush helped to melt and spread any wax that was too thick or thin. Next I took a thick ribbon and cut it to just fit around the candle. I used some pins to hold it in place, and went around the ribbon with my heat gun to adhere it to the candle.
For the paper images, I cut/embossed a New Year’s themed image from Crafty Secret’s Seasonal Heartwarming Vintage Book with S5-014 Deckled Mega Rectangles SM #3 (with #1 being the smallest). The black mat behind it is S4-142 Long Classic Rectangles LG #3. I cut/embossed S3-148 Tags Trio #2 and 3 and stacked them onto the image, and used a black Copic atyou Spica pen to write “2010″.Â
The little holly is the holly accent from the S5-018 Poinsettia Frame. I cut/embossed, then applied green ink (used my finger!) through the tiny die template. I added three red brads and adhered the tag to the image. The image is secured to the candle with wax.
Now, remember to use caution with candles and flames. Never leave a burning candle unsupervised. Only apply tissue paper to wide candles that don’t burn/melt the outside layers.
We hope that you’ve had a wonderful Holiday Season! Stay tuned to this blog for an exciting start to 2010!
