Savvy Saturday~Thank-Full

To start out, a little message from Beth who headed up the Black Friday Blog Give-Away yesterday: “Thank you so much to all our wonderful friends and fans for entering! You kept us hopping all day and night! We truly appreciate all the kind comments and your patience during the day! And a great big thank you to our Spellbindersâ„¢ Blog crew, Eli and Margie, for all their help!”

The winners of the four time slots follow the post but we do have some winners who (at the time of my writing…) had not responded to Beth’s e-mails. Be sure to check your spam folder for a message from bethping at spellbinders dot us…who knows…

Working on this layout this week gave me an opportunity to look over some of my favorite photos that I took over the last year. I gathered a few to put together on one page representing things that I’m thankful for…mostly shots involving my family.

I wanted a cool technique to go along with it and this is what I decided on…alcohol inks on acetate. If you like to get a little messy, this is for you! Check out this cool S4-227 Pumpkin!!

First, you’ll need to gather a few supplies: Spellbindersâ„¢ Wizardâ„¢, S4-227 Pumpkins, S7-017 On the Vine, S4-161 Labels One, S4-235 Fancy Tags; My Mind’s Eye, Penny Lane patterned papers, Core’dinations mustard colored core cardstock; JustRite Stampers Brayton Font, 95 pt; SCRAPBOOK ADHESIVE by 3L, 3-D Adhesive Squares, photo splits; green pen; Alcohol Inks and blending solution; non-stick surface; PVA Glue.

Don’t forget the S4-227 Pumpkins, S7-017 On the Vine die templates are part of the Limited Edition Seasonal Die Templates. These are only being produced until the end of the month…then once they run out, they are out.

To create this layout, print out six photos at 3½x3½”. Then cut them with S4-161 Labels One, #5 (counting from the center). Cut/emboss S7-017 On the Vine from brown patterned paper.

Using acetate, Spellbindersâ„¢ die template packaging works well for simple shapes like this:

Cut S4-227 Pumpkins, #5, using a regular cutting sandwich:

  • White cut mat
  • Magnetic Spacer Mat
  • Die Template, cut ridge up
  • Acetate
  • White cut mat

You may need to put this through the Wizardâ„¢ a couple of times. Depending on the thickness of the acetate, it might not cut all the way through. If not, use my craft knife to snip through the parts that didn’t cut.

Place a non-stick mat on your work surface and lay down several strips of alcohol inks. Add Metallic Mixatives in between. I used gold.

Lay the acetate S4-227 Pumpkin onto the strips of inks and see how they blend. Lift it up (messy part) and lay flat to dry. You may want to drip a bit more ink onto the  S4-227 Pumpkin. Work the color until satisfied but try not to allow the colors to over-mix.

Cut/emboss S4-235 Fancy Tags, one small one for every photo and one large for the title block. Sand each of the small tags and write photo captions on them.

For the large tag, cut off the right end, trim a strip of the mustard yellow Core’dinations and add it to the left side. Stamp “Thank” using JustRite Stampers Brayton Font, 95 pt. Trim the strip. Add the trimmed piece to the right side fancy end and stamp “Full” on it.

Arrange elements on the layout and adhere as seen below.

Don’t forget to add some journaling and edge the page with a coordinating Copic Marker!

Thanks for taking time to stop by today. I hope you enjoyed learning a new technique. Remember, using your Wizardâ„¢ does burn calories. So start with pumpkin pie and end with S4-227 Pumpkins on a layout.

I guess that’s about it…oh, wait, you want to know the winners of the four time slots yesterday. Here you go! We still have a
