CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Thirteen!!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

We thank Becca Feeken for all her inspiring projects using the S5-018 Poinsettia Frame! WOW! Remember to enter our Frenzy contest by sending an email by July 21st (11:59PM EST). The email link is in Becca’s blog!

For Day Thirteen, we have Design Team Member Jennifer Davis giving us her take on our newest reveal, S7-015 Holiday Lights Border Grand and S4-225 Holiday Cheer®.

Your favorite color combination to work with?
I love creating with the color RED. I have to work hard not to use it on every project I do. I gravitate towards bright bold colors in general.

Your first paper craft piece you made with Spellbinders™?
I purchased my first Wizard™ in early 2004 and immediately started to use it to make many layouts of my son. I recently posted about this on my blog. Please check this post to see my first page made with Spellbinders™!

Do you shop for supplies mostly online or locally?
A little bit of both. The nearest scrapbook and craft stores are at least 40 minutes away, so I don’t shop as much as I’d like. I find it diffcult to shop online unless I know exactly what I need. I’m a tactile person. I like to feel and touch paper before buying. Lack of nearby shopping (and budget) is partly what makes me a hybrid scrapper. If I don’t have something, I create an alternative and print it rather than driving all that way to the store to get it.

Your favorite Spellbinders™ storage tip?
I’m not sure if I could cope without magnet sheets. I punch holes in them and have them in 3-ring binders. I’ve seen people put them into page protectors, hang them on walls or just keep the sheets loose. Magnets Rock!

Are you a messy crafter or an organized crafter?
I have to start a project with my area clean but by the time I’m done, it’s a disaster. If I’m working on a large project, sometimes I have to stop in the middle and clean up. But usually only if I lose an important tool amidst the chaos!

Here are some of Jennifer’s creations!

CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Twelve!!

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

If you haven’t take a peek at Design Team Member Lesa Rapp’s blog, go NOW and see her wonderful creation that she made with the S4-230 Labels Six! Remember to enter our Frenzy contest by sending in an email by July 20th (11:59 PM EST). The email link is in Lesa’s blog!

On Day Twelve, Becca Feeken will introduce our next reveal, S5-018 Poinsettia Frame, as we continue with a holiday theme. Wait until you see what Becca has in store for us as inspiration!

Becca has been crafting all her life. It started with her mother being the leader of Becca’s brownie troop so crafting was the entertainment in their household. Then she taught Becca to knit and crochet. By the age of 13, Becca began to sew her own clothes. Guess you can say she was never bored as a child! Fast forward to today, she still loves her childhood crafts but added quilting, cross stitch, beading, machine embroidery, machine knitting and stamping. As for sources of inspiration, she has always been drawn to color and texture. Over the years it led her to collect yarn, fabric, thread, paper, ribbons and coloring tools. “When you hold these things in your hands, it’s easy to dream of the possibilities…”

Welcome to the Spellbinders™ Pendants Blog Frenzy!

Starting today, we are celebrating the introduction of the Pendants die templates that will blow your mind with inspiration!

The first day of the Blog Frenzy is Becca Feeken who will be showing her creation with the S4-204 Fleur de Lis Pendant and the S4-213 Fleur de Lis Borderabilities®.

***Remember you need to send an email to enter! Link is in Becca’s Blog! Good luck!!***

How many years of crafting?
I’ve been crafting since I was a young girl. With a crafty mother who was the leader of my brownie troop - there was always something crafty going on at home.

How long have you been blogging?
I’ve been blogging for a little over a year. I celebrated my blog anniversary back in February.

Your favorite Spellbinder™ technique?
My favorite Spellbinder™ technique is framing. I love to cut our frame shapes and elevate them while recessing other elements to lower layers. It’s easy to do using Nestibilities®, their staggered sizes make them perfect for cutting two templates at once to make a frame.

Your favorite Spellbinders™ die?
Oh, it would be difficult to name just one…but S4-190 Labels Four is a shape I lean to all the time. Beyond that, I love all the frames.

Favorite food/beverage for crafting?
Coffee because if I’m crafting, it’s probably late at night!

One thing you get inspiration from and why?
I get inspiration from browsing through stores and looking through magazines. I’m usually looking for shapes, colors and a “feel.” When I can focus and just browse not buy, the quiet time is very restorative. I’m usually able to come away with a couple of ideas.

Here are some of Becca’s recent creations made with Spellbinders products! Just beautiful!

So what are you waiting for?!
Go to Becca’s Blog and see what we’ve been excited about!

Embossing with Die Templates

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So by now, if you are a regular reader of our little Blog, you know that Spellbinders’s Die Templates cut, emboss and can be used as a stencil to embellish your die cuts.  You also know that the Wizard does a fabulous job of embossing Impressabilities as well as other textures.

That’s right, on this card I used the S4-129 Classic Scalloped Squares Small die template to emboss the yellow Core’dinations Cardstock then sanded it to enhance the texture.

Then I cut and embossed the brown Core’dinations Cardstock with S4-128 Classic Squares Small and S4-196 Large Classic Inverted Scalloped Squares to cut a frame.  I cut and embossed the S3-150 Ribbon Tags Trio and strung a piece of ribbon through it. I inked the edges with Clearsnap Colorbox chestnut Roan Chalk Ink and stamped the “just because…” sentiment from Hero Arts stamps.

I assembled as shown with 7Gypsies patterned paper and attached it to a card made from Core’dinations Cardstock.  It was fun and easy!

Just Because...

Becca Feeken used the square to emboss the center of her mat in this example.

Happy Embossing!

Savvy Saturday ~ It’s Hip to be Square!

Saturday, April 25th, 2009

I admit it.  I can’t for the life of me cut a perfect square.  That makes Spellbinders’ Square die templates perfect for me!  Squares are so versatile in scrapbooking, card making and even multi-media, they’re something everyone should own.  Lets explore some artwork and see why its so hip to be Square!

Heidi Blankenship is hip!  She shows off not only the Classic squares, but the Inverted Scallops and how they look layered the the Classic Scallops.  Great Job, Heidi! She used S4-196 Large Classic Inverted Squares, S4-129 Small Classic Scallop Squares, and S4-191 Dahlia.

Becca Feeken is hip! She cut a frame from the Scalloped Circle  and layered her stamped image with squares.  I love it, Becca! She used S4-128 Classic Squares Small and S4-125 Classic Scalloped Circles Small.

Sherry Cheever is hip! She mounted artwork on the squares and matted with the larger scalloped square and made a beautiful focal point.

When you open the card, you see that she also used a square to cut an opening in the front of the card. Great idea, Sherry! She used S4-126 Classic Squares, Large, and S4-127 Classic Scalloped Squares, Large.

Debbie Olson is hip! Her square would make anyone smile. Fabulous, Debbie! She used S4-129 Classic Scalloped Squares, Small and S4-128 Classic Squares, Small

I love hanging out with these hip ladies, don’t you?
Happy Savvy Saturday!

Savvy Saturday~ You’re Framed!

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

Making frames is a fun and easy technique. Frames can be whimsical, elegant, funky, or whatever style fits your mood or project. With the versatility of Spellbinders’ Die Templates, the sky’s the limit!

Start with your favorite Nestabilities Die Templates, today my favorite is  S4-190 Labels Four. To cut a frame,  place the largest die template on the magnetic spacer plate. Then line up the smaller die template inside of the larger die template. Cut/Emboss in the Wizard and viola! You have a beautifully embossed frame to accent your art.

Consider using different shapes together. Look, you can emboss them too, for additional texture.
Try some Pop Up Glue Dots for even more dimension, or layer thin frames over thick frames, use different colors, different materials…is your head spinning yet? Mine is!  This example employs S5-005 Curved Rectangles and S4-112 Small Classic Ovals.

Blog Team Member Becca Feeken’s use of frames on these cards really adds to the interest, texture and elegance of project.   Becca used Classic Ovals and Classic Ovals Scalloped to make this frame.

On this card Becca used Classic Scalloped Circles and Classic Squares.

For this layout, I used S4-189 Labels Three and S4-194 Large Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles in the center, then added the center Classic Circle stamped with a Just Rite Stampers sentiment. (In case you were wondering, yes, those are my boys.  And yes, that’s how we get a picture taken, one decent shot amidst the rough and tumble! I’m so proud!)

Go ahead and frame yourself, you might like it!

Happy Saturday!

Beth
