As a life-long crafter, Michelle started out by helping her mom with Bible School crafts. After her daughters were born, she started scrapbooking and now is really into the craft! Michelle gets her inspiration from various sources such as all kinds of magazines, browsing through stores, visiting thrift stores and antique stores to surfing through many web sites and bookmarked blogs. When starting a new project, a simple object like a snippet of ribbon or something purchased from a garage sale can set off an inspiration. What she loves most about crafting is creating something special for someone or to fill her home with homemade items…it’s a good feeling!

Debbie has a B.A. in Commercial Art/Graphic Design plus an M.S. in Secondary Education. Much of what Debbie learned in art classes still applies to her today (basic designs, color theory, drawing and coloring skills). A busy mom, she home-schools during the day and creates mostly after 10pm. Debbie describes her style as eclectic - she appreciates so many different styles from clean and fresh to detailed and vintage. We hear she is rarely without a sanding block at her finger tips!

Official Rules

Any participant wishing to be included in the daily drawing for the Spellbinders CHA Blog Frenzy give-away must adhere to all of the following rules. We are happy to welcome US and international blog guests for this Frenzy.

To enter each drawing on sneak peeks between July 9 and July 22, visit the reveal blog and click on the contest link to reveal an e-mail window. In the subject line of the e-mail, enter the die template name being revealed. Each blog reveal will remain open for 48 hours. Only 1 entry per blog is allowed and participant must use the same email address daily to be considered for grand prize entry, no exceptions. Please consider whether you will have access to the same e-mail address from July 9th through July 22nd and plan accordingly.

After the entry deadline is reached, Spellbinders will randomly pick one entry from each Blog Frenzy reveal as stated in the “Rules”. Winner will be contacted by e-mail within 24 hours of the contest deadline. Winner will have 72 hours to reply to that e-mail to claim the prize. If Winner fails to respond within 72 hours, a new name will be drawn for said prize. Winner will receive the new die templates being revealed on the specific daily blog post they are entering.

Entrants visiting all 14 Spellbinders CHA Blog Frenzy Reveals and correctly entering their information into the separate drawings, as described below, will automatically be entered into a GRAND PRIZE give away of a full set of the CHA Summer 2009 die templates and Impressabilities releases, 29 products, with a retail value of $561.71.

How many years of crafting?
I have always been crafty. But I became interested in (quickly progressing to infaturated with) paper crafting at a stamping workshop in November 2000.

How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for three years (in August).

Your favorite Spellbinders™ technique?
I like to use the dies as masks when I’m airbrushing with my Copic markers.

Your favorite Spellbinder™ die?
I mostly use the Standard Circles, followed by the small tag dies.

Favorite food/beverage for crafting?
Hmmm…I’m pretty boring! I generally craft with water by my side, and an occasional Diet Cherry Pepsi. I don’t keep food in my studio but I do keep sugarless gum!

One thing you get inspiration from and why?
I am inspired by every beautiful thing I see…whether it is out my window, in a magazine or in a blog.

I admit it.  I can’t for the life of me cut a perfect square.  That makes Spellbinders’ Square die templates perfect for me!  Squares are so versatile in scrapbooking, card making and even multi-media, they’re something everyone should own.  Lets explore some artwork and see why its so hip to be Square!

Heidi Blankenship is hip!  She shows off not only the Classic squares, but the Inverted Scallops and how they look layered the the Classic Scallops.  Great Job, Heidi! She used S4-196 Large Classic Inverted Squares, S4-129 Small Classic Scallop Squares, and S4-191 Dahlia.

Becca Feeken is hip! She cut a frame from the Scalloped Circle  and layered her stamped image with squares.  I love it, Becca! She used S4-128 Classic Squares Small and S4-125 Classic Scalloped Circles Small.

Sherry Cheever is hip! She mounted artwork on the squares and matted with the larger scalloped square and made a beautiful focal point.

When you open the card, you see that she also used a square to cut an opening in the front of the card. Great idea, Sherry! She used S4-126 Classic Squares, Large, and S4-127 Classic Scalloped Squares, Large.

Introducing Debbie Olson!  Visit Debbie’s blog Thinking Inking,  today to see the first die template revealed for Spellbinder’s 5th Anniversary Party.

I had a chance to catch up with Debbie, and here is what she shared with me.

Did attend school for art or design?
I have a B.A in Commercial Art/Graphic Design, and an M.S. in Secondary Education. I learned much in my art classes that I still apply today–basics of design and color theory, as well as drawing and coloring skills.

When do you usually craft?
I craft any time I can slip away undetected during the day, as well as half of the night! I am a home-schooling mom by day, however, so most of my craft time is after 10pm.

What kind of craft space do you have?
Right now I’m working in a makeshift [disaster] area, but my wonderful husband is working on finishing a studio for me!  The stud walls, insulation, and wiring are now in. It’s almost time for drywall. . .  I can hardly wait to have a place for everything!

Can you describe your style?
In a word, eclectic. I appreciate many different styles, from clean and fresh, to detailed and vintage. I probably lean toward the slightly shabby, however. A sanding block is rarely far from my hand.

Where do you shop for supplies?
Because I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, about two hours from any crafting superstore, the majority of my goodies come by UPS or USPS. Sometimes it’s hard to choose papers that way, not being able to see them in person and touch them. But getting to see them at CHA, or simply knowing what companies’ products I gravitate toward is a help.
