Savvy Saturday ~ Happy Halloween!

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Trick or Treat!  No tricks, just treats for you here!  The first treat is a double on the Tattered Angels Blog Hop!  Design Team Member Lisa Rapp and our very own Eli Harlan are both showcasing some Tattered Angels love today, be sure to visit both of their blogs.  And don’t forget to see what Tattered Angel’s Blog has in store too.

Now on to Halloween.  Halloween is for kids, and kids of all ages dress in costumes!  Super Heros, Princesses, Monsters, Celebrities, Politicians, Ninjas, Ghosts and just about anything else goes when it comes to Halloween.  Some people even wear costumes to work! This picture is the Spellbinders™ crew in Phoenix!  I’m sure they had a lot of fun, and plenty of candy too!

For today’s post I put together a cute Halloween mini book.  I had a sheet of vintage images waiting for the perfefct project, and this is it!  I didn’t take a lot of step shots, but you will see it is a pretty straight forward book.

I started with the largest of the S4-227 Pumpkins and cut 4 chipboard pumpkin shapes as bases for the pages.  In my Wizard™ I cut/embossed 8 more from patterned paper, Fancy Pants Trick or Treat Collection and an orange piece from Daydreams, these covered both sides of the chipboard.  I spritzed the pumpkin die cuts with Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels, and when they were dry I sanded the edges.  I have several colors of Glimmer Mist and tried to match them with the colors of the papers.  Look at the results!

Ohhhhh, glimmery!

I cut a piece of Core’dinations Black Magic Cardstock with the S4-227 Pumpkins Nestabilities, to make pumpkin shaped frames by nesting the die templates.  See how I set them on my Magnetic Spacer Plate.  This gave me 2 frames and 3 full pumpkins.  I cut/embossed then sanded the black side to reveal the orange color underneath.

The rest of the book is just stacking, layering, inking, sanding and having fun.

The book includes a variety of Spellbinders™ die templates, including the following:
S4-227 Pumpkins; S7-014 Classic Lace Border Grand, S5-014 Deckled Mega Rectangles SM; S4-131 Classic Scalloped Rectangles SM; S4-235 Fancy Tags; S4-169 Small Labels; S4-200 Flower Bouquet; S4-161 Labels One; S4-190 Labels Four; S5-019 Labels Eight; S4-233 Labels Nine, S4-134 Classic Paisley.

Other supplies include: Fancy Pants, paper; Tattered Angels, Glimmer Mists; Crafty Secrets, Heartwarming Vintage images; Creative Impressions, Ribbons; Clearsnap, Colorbox Charcoal Fluid Chalk Ink; Copic, Atyou Spica Pitch Black; Cardstock; Alpha rub-ons; adhesives; hole punch; book ring.

Happy Halloween!
Beth

CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Twelve!!

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

If you haven’t take a peek at Design Team Member Lesa Rapp’s blog, go NOW and see her wonderful creation that she made with the S4-230 Labels Six! Remember to enter our Frenzy contest by sending in an email by July 20th (11:59 PM EST). The email link is in Lesa’s blog!

On Day Twelve, Becca Feeken will introduce our next reveal, S5-018 Poinsettia Frame, as we continue with a holiday theme. Wait until you see what Becca has in store for us as inspiration!

Becca has been crafting all her life. It started with her mother being the leader of Becca’s brownie troop so crafting was the entertainment in their household. Then she taught Becca to knit and crochet. By the age of 13, Becca began to sew her own clothes. Guess you can say she was never bored as a child! Fast forward to today, she still loves her childhood crafts but added quilting, cross stitch, beading, machine embroidery, machine knitting and stamping. As for sources of inspiration, she has always been drawn to color and texture. Over the years it led her to collect yarn, fabric, thread, paper, ribbons and coloring tools. “When you hold these things in your hands, it’s easy to dream of the possibilities…”

Some of Becca’s creations to share!

CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Eleven!!

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

Many thanks to Debbie Seyer for her beautiful cards she created with S4-233 Labels Nine die template! Great idea on placing the frame in a different position and the shaker box feature! Remember to enter our Frenzy contest by sending in an email by July 19th (11:59 PM EST). The email link is in Debbie’s blog!

Design Team Member Lesa Rapp will be using today’s reveal, S4-230 Labels Six to make her wonderful creation to inspire us with!

Do you have a scrap room or a scrap area?
I have my own room! When my kids all took over the basement, I snagged the room. It is approximately 10 x 15 and all mine! I want to redo the floor and paint. But for now, I am slowly getting IKEA items to get it organized. I love my kitchen unit - the drawers are amazing and it is so pretty. I just got myself an Expedit shelf unit and I love it as well. It is so nice having a place where I can just shut the door if I want.

Are you a messy crafter or an organized crafter?
Unfortunately I am messy. I stamp and work with paper and make a big old mess. When it gets hard to move around, I clean it up and start over. I am working on that one :0)

Your favorite color combination to work with?
I love pink and brown! I was only blessed with one girl and I think as I get older, my girly side is coming out!

Your favorite Spellbinders™ piece you made so far?
I think my flower pot card. Although my Spellbinders™ final project made with dies we were sent comes in pretty close as a second project.

Your favorite music or TV programs while creating?
My TV died. I have an iPod in a docking system that I play mostly. My favorite music is anything Brad Paisley. I have been to four of his concerts and I never tire of listening to him.

Here are some of Lesa’s favorite Spellbinders™ pieces!

CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Seven!!

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

We are entering the half way point of our CHA Blog Frenzy! Hope you all are enjoying all the wonderful creations made by our talented Design Team!

A BIG thank you to Heidi Blankenship for her beautiful creations on the Harvest theme of her reveal (S4-228 Nested Maple Leaf and S4-226 Harvest Border Petite).  Can’t get enough of these leaves?! Head over to Lesa Rapp’s blog and see what she has created!

Don’t forget for those of you who are entering our Frenzy contest - you have until July 15th (11:59PM EST) to send in your email. The link is in Heidi’s blog.

On to Day Seven! Please welcome in Design Team Member Kimberly Crawford as she will be revealing our next products, S4-231 Labels Seven and I2-1005 Impressabilities® Circles.

Do you have a scrap room or a scrap area?
Yes, I am so thankful to be able to leave my work out. I can close the door and not worry about our toddler or the cat getting into mischief. My husband and I share the space. So when he works on his projects and I work on mine…it’s nice to be together.

Are you a messy crafter or an organized crafter?
For being such an organized person (obsessively so), my scrap room is a mess. I have yet to find the perfect solution. But my room is set up perfectly for me to work. Everything I use constantly is within easy reach. So my room isn’t pretty but functional.

Your favorite music or TV programs while creating?
Sometimes I will watch my favorite old movies but I am usually singing my lungs out to my iPod. It’s a pretty eclectic mix. Everything from Avalon, The Gaither Vocal Band, Poison, Garth Brooks to Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Do you have a favorite snack or drink while creating?
It used to be a cold Mt. Dew filled with ice. But I quit drinking sugar pop so now it’s water. I prefer a bottle because I am clumsy. My favorite snack food is Harry and David’s Moose Munch, the dark chocolate version.

Are you more of a “collector” or a “as needed” crafter?
I collect because I need :0)

Here are some wonderful samples of Kimberly’s work!
