Savvy Saturday~Thinking Inside The Box!

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

Don’t forget our Spellbinders™ and Tattered Angels month-long blog hop! Today, we would like to spotlight our Design Team Member Linda Duke! See what she has in store for you by visiting her blog.

Everyone says “think outside the box” but have you ever thought of “the box?” So thinking inside the box, I went into my “box” of Spellbinders™ die templates to find S5-019 Labels Eight, S4-226 Harvest Border Petites and S4-227 Pumpkin Nestabilities®.

Hmm…with gift giving season coming up, I’m thinking I would try my hand at making a box! Since Halloween is just around the corner, why not make a little treat box. See where I’m going with this…box! LOL!

First we need to cut/emboss four S5-019 Labels Eight die #6 (#1 being the smallest) with My Mind’s Eye Fall In Love Collection.

Your cut sandwich will be (from the bottom):
White Master Mat
Magnetic Spacer Plate
S5-019 Labels Eight die #6 (cut/ridge side UP)
Cardstock
White Master Mat

After cutting your cardstock, remove the Magnetic Spacer Plate and grab your Enlarged Embossing Pad for your emboss sandwich (from the bottom):
White Master Mat
S5-019 Labels Eight die #6 (w/ cardstock, cut side UP)
Enlarged Embossing Pad
White Master Mat

Then score 1/2″ from each short side and 1/2″ on the bottom of the long side of all four S5-019 Labels Eight die cuts. Make sure to cut the corners at the bottom to make the tabs easy to fold.

Adhere to each side making four walls but do not connect the last sides together yet. We need to embellish the walls first before completing the frame of the box.

Taking your S4-226 Harvest Border Petites, cut/emboss the leaves border (this particular border cuts all the way around to make a great accent piece) and stencil with Clearsnap Colorbox Fluid Chalk Chestnut Roan. You’ll need to cut/emboss/stencil four times (for each side). Trim to fit inside the scored lines - approx. 1/2″. Then line up the borders to make a straight line as shown and adhere.

Using the S4-227 Pumpkin Nestabilties® die #3, cut/emboss with orange cardstock and with Sparkle ‘N Sprinkle Burnt Orange Flocking Powder, I textured the pumpkin. Determine which side will be the front of the box and adhere the pumpkin. Mist Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist Raven onto a small flower, dry and add Hero Arts Pearls in the middle. I used Crafty Secrets Creative Scraps Seasonal Calendar/Halloween image and the black pearl pin to go with that glimmery flower.

Now you can put the last sides together to form the frame of the box by using wet adhesive. Then cut 4.5″x 4.5″ size piece of cardstock to make the bottom of the box. With wet adhesive, edge the bottom four sides of the cardstock and then drop it in on top of the scored edges of the box frame. Let dry.

To finish it off, add your favorite Halloween treat and you’ve got yourself a box! Now remember to think inside the box for your next project!

Hope you have a wonderful Saturday!!

CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Six!!

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Many thanks to Linda Duke for a wonderful job on her reveal of S4-219 Nested Poinsettia and I2-1006 Impressabilities® Floral and Stone. Again, a reminder to those of you who are entering our Frenzy contest…you have until July 14th (11:59PM EST) to send in your email. The link is in Linda’s blog.

Now we are on Day Six of the Frenzy! Today, we will take a look at what Design Team Member Heidi Blankenship has created with our next new release, S4-228 Nested Maple Leaf  and S4-226 Harvest Border Petite.

Do you have a scrap room or a scrap area?
Yes, I have two different areas: one is in the basement where I keep all of my personal stuff; and the other area is on the main level where I keep all the products that I use on a daily basis as well as design team supplies.

Are you a messy crafter or an organized crafter?
It depends on what I am doing…right now, it’s kind of a mess! The basement area tends to be messy. I think because it’s out of site and if I don’t feel like cleaning it right away, nobody will see it. I like to keep the main level area very organized - everything has a place and is labeled.

Are you an altered arts, scrapbook or card kinda gal?
I am a card maker first but I really do enjoy doing altered arts and then it would be scrapbooking.

Who is your favorite promotional partner?
I love Crafty Secrets and all of the paper crafting products they carry. Vintage is one of my favorite styles. I also love working with JustRite Stampers. They have a wonderful variety of stamps and I like being able to make personalized cards and gifts. One of my other favorite is Core’dinations paper. I love the look of embossed and sanded cardstock with its color core.

Do you shop for supplies mostly online or locally?
I do both. But I truly believe in supporting my local shop so I always check there first. If the store owner doesn’t have it in stock, she will order it. If it’s from a company that I can’t find locally, I will then purchase products online.

Here are some samplings of Heidi’s beautiful creations!

CHA Blog Frenzy - Day Five!!

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Design Team Member Kazan Clark created some amazing cards with the S4-234 Ribbon Tag Trio 2 set and did you notice the S4-208 In Spades Pendant die too - WOW! Can’t get enough of this new reveal? Karen Hunsaker’s blog has another sample of what you can do

A continued reminder for those who are entering our Frenzy contest - you have until July 13th (11:59PM EST) to send in your email. The link is in Kazan’s blog!

Today on Day Five, we will be peeking into Design Team Member Linda Duke’s blog to see what she created with S4-219 Nested Poinsettia and I2-1006 Impressabilities® Floral and Stone.

As long as Linda can remember, she has always been interested in art. Her father was a very talented artist and would spend hours watching him draw. She always had paper and pencil in hand, and tried to emulate his drawings. In high school, Linda took every art classes she could and continued to take art courses in college. Thanks to those classes, she is able to learn to work with all kinds of medium. Linda’s “go to” Spellbinders™ dies are the Nestabilities® as they are perfect for card making and stamping.

Here we are sharing one of Linda’s beautiful art pieces…looks so real!

How many years of crafting?
As long as I can remember, I have always been interest in art.  My dad was a very talented artist, and I would spend hours watching him draw.  I always had paper and pencil in hand and tried to draw the things he did.

Your favorite Spellbinders™ technique?
My favorite technique would have to be coloring with either PrismaColor Pencils or Copic Markers. Both are great for achieving a realistic look and perfect for shading.

Your favorite Spellbinders™ die?
As for my favorite die, that’s difficult because I really enjoy them all, but my favorite would be the Nestabilities®. They are perfect for card making and stamping.

One thing you get inspiration for and why?
Magazines: I collect all of them. Since I live in a small town, they help me stay up to date with what’s going on in the industry.

Here are some of Linda’s beautiful work!

Savvy Saturday~ Mothers Day

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Here we are on the brink of Mothers Day and I get to share with you some projects made with Mom in mind,  by our fabulous 2009 Design Team.

To start us off, Karen Hunsaker made this candle and card with S4-163 Daisy Borderability Petite. We saw this the other day, but it’s worth a second look. I love that the envelope flap is embossed, and the edge of the card is cut and embossed, as well as the wrap for the candle.

Debbie Seyer’s card unfolds to 4 panels for Mom and she’s sure to cherish it. Debbie cut and embossed S4-111 Classic Scallop Ovals Large, S4-145 Long Classic Scalloped Rectangles Small, S4-138 Petite Ovals Large, S4-169 Labels Small, S4-072 Flower Creations, S4-124 Classic Scalloped Circles Large, and S4-125 Classic Scalloped Circles Small to make this gorgeous tribute to her Mom.

Karen Taylor’s scrapbook layout was made for her daughter. I love how she combined S4-072 Flower Creations, S4-109 Flower Creations 3, and the S7-014 Grand 12″ Classic Lace Border.

Kimberly Crawford’s floral card celebrates Spring, surely that’s Mom’s favorite season.  Kimberly combined S3-147 Labels Trio, S4-114 Standard Circle Large, and S4-124 Classic Scalloped Circles Large.

Julie Overby will score seconds of dessert with this adorable card! S4-190 Labels Four is so versatile, and S4-072 Flower Creations work so well with S4-198 Flourish Accents.

Kazan Clark’s Mum will be thrilled to get this card, here is Kazan’s interpretation of S4- Labels Four.

Designer Linda Duke shares this keepsake box just for mom’s treasures. Linda’s works her magic with the S4-159 Nested Flowers, S4-157 Sunflower Set One (for the leaves), S4-125 Classic Scalloped Ovals Small.

Linda’s mini book is something Mom will treasure. When assembled, Mom has a beautiful tribute to her patience, love and dedication.   S4-072 Flower Creations, S3-004 Symbology, S3-033 Cameo and Brooch, S4-142 Long Classic Rectangles LargeS4-131 Classic Scalloped Rectangle Small, S4-116 Standard Circles Small, S4-125 Classic Scalloped Circle Small.

p

Everyone at Spellbinders’ Paper Arts wishes you, your Mom, and those that are like a Mother to you a Happy Mothers Day.  We love you, Mom!
