Hi everyone, Ilina Crouse here, and I am thrilled to be on the Spellbinders blog.
I always find myself in a need of Birthday card and you can never go wrong with Baloons!!! Which means you can never go wrong with Simon Hurley’s new collections with Spellbinders called
Birthday bash. I am loving the
mylar balloons and all of the coordinating products. It makes it really easy to combine products like the
Mylar Balloons etched dies along with the
Party Balloons 3D embossing folder and the
Layered Party Ballons stencil.
I had so much fun creating with all the products from Simon’s collection!
For all of my cards, I tried to choose a consistent color palette of tide, peach and green color combinations or something in between.
3D Embossed Balloons card
For this card, I combined a few products, especially for the background.

Start with embossing a piece of white cardstock using the
Party Ballons 3D Embossing folder. Add ink using the
Layered Party Balloons. Next die cut
Mylar Balloons from the coordinating cardstock (I only used 3).
Cut the panel to 4” x 5 ¼” and adhere the 3 ballons that you die cut.
Next, foil the sentiments from the
Birthday Sentiments glimmer plate collection and die-cut them using the coordinating dies.
Assemble the panel and adhere to a top-folded white note card.
Balloons everywhere card
For this card, die-cut the balloons using the same color of cardstock as the previous card, but you will also need to die-cut the shadows for the balloons. Use slightly darker cardstock for these. Assemble all of the balloons and arrange to a piece of black cardstock.

I loved how it looked, so I proceeded to adhere them to the black panel. Add white enamel dots. Foil sentiment (I used black foil) die cut and add one of them to the panel.
Using foam tape adhere the panel to a white note card.
Let’s Party Card
For this card, you will also need 3 die-cut balloons using the same colors of cardstock as above. Assemble them and add gold mirror cardstock stings to them. Set aside.

Using the
Plaster embossing folder emboss Tide cardstock and cut to 4” x 5 ¼”. Using a white pigment ink pad run across the panel to leave white residue on the raised parts. Set aside to dry completely,
Die cut a white oval using the
Essential Stylish Ovals Etched Dies. Adhere the balloons.
Foil Let’s Party using pink/peach satin foil. Die cut.
Assemble the panel and adhere to a top folded note card.
May Your Wishes Come True card
I tried to keep this card pretty simple. Start by embossing a piece of peach-colored cardstock using the
Flourish embossing folder. Cut to 4 ¼” x 5 ¼” and add slightly darker ink to create a sort of ombre effect.

Next using white pigment ink run across the raised parts. Set aside to dry. While the ink is drying use gold satin foil set of sentiments and die cut.
Add a couple to the card and several gold half-back pearls.
Adhere to the top folded white card.
Foiled Birthday card
Last but not least I am sharing a card where I used the
Birthday Bash press plate to hot foil.

To hotfoil the panel I used Van Gogh black watercolor paper.
Foil more sentiments using black foil on white cardstock and die cut them using the coordinating die.
Next, using shimmer watercolors watercolored the scene, cut and add a sentiment and a few embellishments to finish it off.
