Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg

Hello crafters! Jen Kotas here to share a step-by-step photo tutorial using the 3D Felt Decor Spring Collection by Sandi MacIver. This collection works with and complements the Fergus 3D Felt Decor Collection released last year. Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 We’ll be creating a stitched egg that can be made in no time and as simple or detailed as you wish! Step 1 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Cut the large egg from 3D Eggs and Flowers Etched Dies four times and the large square once. Step 2 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752  Choose a floss color close to the color of the felt. Cut off about a yard then pull out three individual threads and thread the needle. Step 3 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Line up the holes of two egg die cuts and hold them together with a few small clips. Step 4 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Come up through the first hole of the top egg only. Leave enough of a tale to tie a knot when done. Step 5 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Stitch through both of the next set of holes and continue to top stitching through every second hole. Step 6 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Once you reach the top, stitch back down the same side, filling in the gaps, going through every second hole again. Step 7 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 When you reach the last hole, only go through the first layer. Cut the thread, leaving a long tail. Step 8 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Tie a knot with the two threads and tuck the tails up inside. Step 9 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Repeat steps four through eight with the third and fourth egg pieces until you get to the top of the second side of the egg piece. Run the thread through the hole next to the hole you came up through, bring floss to the other side, then up and over back to the starting point. Finish the last section. Step 10 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Line up the square base with one side of the egg. Line up holes and stitch along the straight side. Step 11 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Continue to the second side, only stitching the straight sides. Step 12 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Leave two sides unstitched and stuff with fiber fill ½ to ¾ full. Add crushed walnut shells or other filling to weigh the base. Step 13 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Go through two side stitches, then begin the third side. Step 14 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Continue to stitch the third and fourth sides. Step 15 Continue around a second time, filling in the gaps and closing the corners as in step 13. Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Step 16 Die-cut pieces to create four daffodils. Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Step 17 Stitch leaves going up, then back down. Knot the ends and cut the tails close. Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Step 18 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Use liquid glue generously to adhere felt pieces. Step 19 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Adhere both petal layers together. Step 20 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Add liquid glue to the yellow fringe piece along the bottom and sides, then roll it up and hold it closed for a few minutes. Step 21 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Add liquid glue to the bottom and sides of the solid yellow piece. Step 22 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Place the rolled piece on the solid one, then roll them together. Hold for a few minutes to set. Step 23 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Apply a generous amount of liquid glue to the flower center, and place the rolled piece. Step 24 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Tip: Use a liquid glue that dries matte so any glue on the finished piece won’t show. Step 25 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 When adding liquid glue to stitched leaves, adjust and trim any ends so they aren’t peaking out under the leaf. Step 26 Step by Step Tutorial: Stitching a Spring 3D Felt Egg, S5-752 Add a daffodil with liquid glue, allowing it to set before moving on to the next side.
