Layered Die Cut House Card Tutorial | Easy Everyday City Card Idea

Layered Die Cut House Card Tutorial | Easy Everyday City Card Idea

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial with you using the Everyday City Holiday Collection by Yana Smakula. This collection coordinates with the City Holiday Etched Dies, but now we can decorate the house/apartment building for all seasons, not just the holidays! My focus for the card is on the new Everyday Windows, Curtains and Flower Boxes Etched Dies, but I do sneak in an awning from the Everyday Awnings Etched Dies because they are too fun not to use! I love that all the sets can be mixed and matched with each other! HOW TO DECORATE A HOME USING YANA’S EVERYDAY CITY HOLIDAY COLLECTION, S7-277, S4-1537, S3-579, BP-361, GLF-049

That may be a long time for some people and not so long for others. It was a lot of die cutting, but I thoroughly enjoyed decorating the apartment building! There are so many possibilities for colour combinations with this set too. You can have a lot of fun with it! I created a shaped card today, but the apartment building does fit on a standard A2-sized card base as well. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, I hope you have a wonderful day! Step-by-Step Townhouse Card Tutorial with Everyday Awnings Dies

Step-by-Step Townhouse Card Tutorial with Everyday Awnings Dies

Hello crafters! It’s Lisa Tilson here with you today to share a card featuring the Everyday Awnings Dies from the Yana Smakula Everyday City Holiday Collection. I am going to be doing a step-by-step photo tutorial showing you how to create this pretty townhouse with its sunny striped awnings and window boxes full of flowers! The Everyday Awnings Dies and the Everyday Windows, Curtains and Flower Boxes Dies work in conjunction with the previously released City Holiday Dies from last year. The City Holiday Dies create the main part of the house, the door, and some parts of the windows. This new collection builds on last year’s release and is a great way to stretch your Holiday dies throughout the year! This card may look complicated at first glance, but I can assure you it isn’t really. It is a lot of repeated die-cutting and assembling. Other than pressing the sentiment, all you will be doing is cutting pieces of card and gluing them back together! So, let’s get started.

A Happy Hello from My House to Yours

For all the die cutting, use the Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine with the die cutting sandwich as follows (from bottom to top):
  • Plate A – Platform Base
  • Plate B – Platform Top
  • Plate C – Cutting Plate
  • Plate C – Cutting Plate
The cardstock/die will be inserted between the two cutting plates with the die sitting on top of the cardstock, cutting side down.

Die Cutting

TIP: it’s helpful to use a Medium Craft Stax to keep all your die cuts and dies in one place on your desk.

I hope you find this tutorial helpful. I kept a minimal colour palette for my card today, but you can really go to town and change up the colours you use along with the details of the windows, awnings, and window boxes! You can have the windows with different curtains or even blinds. You can have them in different shapes. You can also change the shape of the awnings. You have several options for flowers to add into your window boxes. There are so many ways to customise your design. I hope you have fun creating with these fabulous sets! If you would like to see more of my cards, I would love to have you join me over on my blog, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. In the meantime, thank you so much for your company here on the Spellbinders blog today. I hope that you have a great day! Everyday City Holiday Collection Introduction with Yana Smakula

Everyday City Holiday Collection Introduction with Yana Smakula

Welcome to the Everyday City Holiday collection with Spellbinders. If you’re familiar with my original City Holiday set (from my City Holiday Collection), you know it was inspired by the building I call home. That design focused on a festive, holiday feel, but after its release, many of you shared wonderful ideas on how you wanted to use it beyond the winter season. This new collection was created with exactly that in mind. The Everyday City Holiday collection expands the original set and opens the door to year-round creativity. Instead of limiting your scenes to a specific holiday, these additions allow you to build everyday moments, seasonal stories, and charming urban vignettes.

Everyday Windows, Curtains and Flower Boxes Etched Dies

One of the most requested features was a different window style. In the original set, I included arched windows inspired by my own apartment building. This time, I added classic rectangular windows along with coordinating curtain details, giving you more flexibility when designing your buildings. Mixing the two styles instantly changes the look and feel of your project.

Everyday Awnings Etched Dies

Another favorite addition is the set of awnings. These come in multiple styles and sizes, including options for individual windows and a larger version that fits a storefront. With just this one detail, your building can easily transform into a café, boutique, or small neighborhood shop.

To bring even more personality to your scenes, I also included flower boxes and greenery elements. These can be styled for any season - bright florals for spring, lush greenery for summer, or softer arrangements for fall. It’s a simple way to add life and character to your designs.

Welcome Home Sentiments Press + Foil Plate & Die Set

The collection also features a BetterPress sentiment set with coordinating dies. One detail I especially love is that the sentiments are sized to fit inside the large window from the original City Holiday set.

This creates an opportunity to turn that window into a focal point—almost like a display window or a little message from inside the building.

Because this is an expansion collection, you’ll want to pair it with the original City Holiday die set to build your base structure. From there, these new elements give you the freedom to customize and reimagine your designs in countless ways. I truly love seeing how you interpret these products—your color choices, your layouts, and the little stories you tell through your cards. It’s always inspiring. Thank you so much for joining me today on the Spellbinders Blog. I hope this collection encourages you to create your own unique city scenes and explore new ideas throughout the year. Happy crafting!
