Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia

Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia

Hello cardmaking friends! It’s Lisa Tilson here with you today to share a card featuring the Magical Fuchsia Press + Foil Plate & Die Set from the Alex Syberia Designs Magical Fuchsia Collection. I am going to be doing a step-by-step photo tutorial showing you how to press, color, and emboss this beautiful image! There are many options available to you when combining the press plate, stencils, and embossing folder. You can press or foil the plate, use it with or without stencils. You can use the stencils on their own or combine them with the embossing folder. You can even use the embossing folder on its own. I have to say that adding the embossing folder into the mix when using the press plate really takes your card to another level – the texture of the folder over the pressed image is fabulous! So, let’s get started with the card.

Dear Friend

For all of the die cutting, use the Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine with the die cutting sandwich as follows (from bottom to top):
  • Plate A – Platform Base
  • Plate B – Platform Top
  • Plate C – Cutting Plate
  • Plate C – Cutting Plate
The cardstock/die will be inserted between the two cutting plates with the die sitting on top of the cardstock, cutting side down.

Die Cutting and Pressing

  1. Start by taking an A2 panel of Pebble BetterPress Cardstock and taping the second largest rectangle from Perfect Touch Rectangles and Tag Etched Dies onto it using Best Ever Craft Tape.
Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia, BP-349, STN-127, E3D-172, BP-025, BP-298, S5-647
  1. Run it through your Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine.
Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia, BP-349, STN-127, E3D-172, BP-025, BP-298, S5-647
  1. Tape your die-cut panel onto the underside of the BetterPress Letterpress System platen (clear top plate). As your panel is smaller than A2 size, tape it so that it sits centrally within the A2 guidelines.
  2. Place the Magical Fuchsia Press + Foil Plate onto the chase (magnetic platform) and ink it up with BetterPress Black Ink. Position your press plate centrally on the chase so that when pressed, the image will sit in the centre of your die-cut panel.
TIP: Using the large BetterPress Black Ink Pad is helpful for larger plates. TIP: Die-cutting your panel to size before pressing helps to preserve the letterpress effect. Die cutting after pressing can result in you losing a little bit of that beautiful, pressed look.
  1. Flip the platen back over and pop it back onto the chase.
Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia, BP-349, STN-127, E3D-172, BP-025, BP-298, S5-647
  1. Remove all plates from your Platinum SIX Die Cutting Machine and run your BetterPress Letterpress System through it.
Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia, BP-349, STN-127, E3D-172, BP-025, BP-298, S5-647
  1. Take the “dear friend” press plate from Crafty Hugs Sentiments Press Plate & Die Set and place it onto your chase.
  2. Tape a small panel of Porcelain BetterPress Cardstock to the underside of the platen.
  3. Ink up the plate using BetterPress Black Ink.
  4. Flip the platen back over and place it back onto the chase.
  5. Run it through your die-cutting machine.
TIP: The small BetterPress Black Ink works really well for small press plates.

Coloring the Fuchsia Using Layering Stencils

Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia, BP-349, STN-127, E3D-172, BP-025, BP-298, S5-647
  1. Place your image panel onto the Stampwheel Sticky Mat. You are now ready to add your colour using the Layered Magical Fuchsia Stencils. There are five stencils, and they are numbered in the bottom left corner.
Give Your Card The Wow Factor. A Step by Step Press, Colour and Emboss Tutorial Using Magical Fuchsia, BP-349, STN-127, E3D-172, BP-025, BP-298, S5-647
  1. Align Stencil 1 over your image. The sticky mat will definitely hold it in place, but you can also add a few pieces of Best Ever Craft Tape to make doubly sure it doesn’t shift!
  2. Using a Medium Blending Brush, apply Amethyst Core Ink through the stencil openings and then remove the stencil.
TIP: Use a heavier application of ink towards the centre of the flower and fade the colour out towards the ends of the petals.  This helps to give the flower a little more interest rather than just applying a solid application.

  1. Place the embossing folder/cardstock between the Platform Base (A) and the Adaptor Plate (D). You do not need any other plates when embossing a 3D embossing folder. If you need to, add a paper shim or two for a deeper impression.
  2. Run the embossing folder through your die-cutting machine.

  1. Tape the sentiment strip die from Always and Forever Sentiment Strips Press Plate and Die Set over your sentiment and run it through your die cutting machine.
TIP: You could just trim your sentiment with a paper trimmer. However, using a sentiment strip will give you a nice, polished finish/edge to your sentiment.

  1. Add Bearly Art Glue onto the back of your embossed panel and adhere it onto a side folding A2 white note card (8.5” x 5.5”, scored and folded at 4.25”)
  2. Add small pieces of White Foam Adhesive Square onto the back of your sentiment.

  1. Finish by adding some Onyx Color Essential Gems around the sentiment and towards the bottom right of the fuchsia.
That finishes your card! I hope you find this tutorial useful. I kept the ink blending very simple today, but you could add even more interest to it by experimenting with a few colour blends on the petals. The pressed and coloured image is beautiful without the embossing, but it is even more gorgeous when you emboss it. You won’t be able to stop running your fingers over it! If you would like to see more of my cards, I would love to have you join me over on my blog, Instagram, Facebook, or YouTube. In the meantime, thank you so much for joining me here on the Spellbinders blog. I hope that you have a great day! How to Use a 3D Embossing Folder: Magical Fuchsia Card Tutorial

How to Use a 3D Embossing Folder: Magical Fuchsia Card Tutorial

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial with you using the Magical Fuchsia 3D Embossing Folder from the Magical Fuchsia collection by Alex Syberia. The embossing folder coordinates with the press plate and stencil set, but for today’s card, I wanted to show that it can be used on its own, too. HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349

EMBOSSING THE IMAGE

HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Cut Violet ColorWheel Cardstock into a 4.25” x 5.5” panel.
  2. Using the Mighty Mister Spray Bottle, mist water onto both sides of the panel.
TIP: Misting the cardstock with water helps to soften the fibres of the cardstock and helps to prevent cracking.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Place inside Magical Fuchsia 3D Embossing Folder.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349 HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):
  • A Platform Base
  • 3D embossing folder with cardstock inside
  • Adapter Plate D
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Remove cardstock panel from folder and let it dry for a few minutes.
  2. Place panel onto Sticky Mat.
  3. Using a Large Blending Brush, blend Grape Juice Core Ink around the edges of the panel.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Using a (medium) Blending Brush, blend Pitch Black Core Ink around the very edges. Do not add as much as the Grape Juice.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Smoosh Unicorn Pigment Ink onto Sticky Mat.
  2. Pick up ink using flat foamed blending tool.
TIP: Smooshing the ink onto the Sticky Mat and picking up from there is the preferred method here than directly from the ink pad. Once you add the white ink on top of the purple ink, the foam will pick up some of the purple ink. If you then place this onto the white ink pad again, it will add purple ink to it. Using the Sticky Mat is a good way to avoid that.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Gently pounce the blending tool onto the image, just on the very raised parts. You may need to apply the ink multiple times to get the saturation of ink you want.
Worried about getting ink where you don’t want it? Before adding the white ink on top, place the Magical Fuchsia Stencils on top of the image and add the white ink on top. Make sure to heat set the ink in between the layers to avoid smearing it. HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Heat set the ink using a heat tool.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Add a small amount of water to Pearl Gold paint from the Water Color Mixing Set.
  2. Mix paint with water using a paintbrush.
  3. Load up paint onto brush.
  4. Tap brush over the image panel to splatter the paint on to it.
  5. Set panel aside to dry.

HOT FOILING THE SENTIMENT

HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Turn on Glimmer Hot Foil System.
  2. Cut a small amount Matte Gold Glimmer Hot Foil Roll and place it on top (shiny side up) of a small piece of Violet ColorWheel Cardstock.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Place ‘just because’ sentiment from Magical Fuchsia Press + Foil Plate + Die Set on top, impression side down.
  2. Hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
TIP: Holding plates and foil in place with tape helps to prevent either of them shifting when running through the die-cutting machine.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Once the platform is heated up (the green light will show), place cardstock/foil/plate sandwich onto the platform, plate side down.
  2. Press the timer button (this will flash green).
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. When the light turns continuous green, remove platform from base.
  2. Add shims on top.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Carefully peel back Best Ever Craft Tape.
  2. Using the tape as a handle, carefully lift up the foil and plate and place it onto the silicone mat to cool down.
Please note: the plate will be hot, so be careful! HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Place coordinating die on top of sentiment, hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  2. Run through Platinum Six Die Cutting Machine using the following sandwich (bottom to top):
  • A Platform Base
  • B Platform Top
  • C Cutting Plate
  • Cardstock with die on top
  • C Cutting Plate
  1. Remove sentiment die cut from die.

CARD ASSEMBLY

HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Add tape runner adhesive to either back of panel or card base.
  2. Adhere panel on top of card base.
HOW TO HIGHLIGHT EMBOSSING USING MAGICAL FUCHSIA COLLECTION, E3D-172, BP-349
  1. Add foam squares on back of sentiment.

Adding white pigment ink to the raised areas on the embossing really does highlight the image from the background. You could also reverse it and have a light background and add darker ink to the image! There are lots of ways that you can use embossing folders on their own, but remember, the press plate and stencils do coordinate with the embossing folder too if you want to combine them. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, I hope you have a wonderful day! Magical Fuchsia Card Tutorial: Layered Die Cut Flowers on a Dark Background

Magical Fuchsia Card Tutorial: Layered Die Cut Flowers on a Dark Background

Hello, crafty friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I am sharing a card I created using the Magical Fuchsia collection. I have always loved fuchsia flowers - they’re so vibrant! I wanted to bring some of that bright color to my card, and then really make the colors pop against a dark background. So that’s what I did. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 I’ll give you my step-by-step for this card, and I hope you will be inspired to create your own. Let’s get started!

STEP 1

Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Using the Magical Fuchsia die set, cut out all the pieces from white cardstock. I have paired each piece with the die that it was cut from, so you can see how each piece is made. I also have the collection of inks displayed to show you my color palette. I used Saltwater Taffy, Festive Berries, Seedless Preserves, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, and Twisted Citron. The two pink/reds and the purple act as a trio of light, medium, and dark for the flowers, and then the yellow is for the flower center. The two greens are for the leaves!

STEP 2

Assemble your fuchsias. Start with the petal piece and add the flower middle on top. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Layer the next petals on top of the base piece you just prepared, as shown below. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 With those pieces adhered, you can go ahead and add more petals on top to really fill out the flower. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 The little piece that sticks up in the back of the flower is then easily adhered to the branches of the flowers. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 And that’s one flower done! Let's craft two more to fill these branches.

STEP 3

Cut enough pieces and color them to assemble another flower just the same way you just finished your first one. This second flower is a larger one that builds on the small flower. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 For the larger flower, we are simply going to continue adding layers of petals on top the smaller one. I have shown above the die and petals that are next to add to the fuchsia. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Just keep layering! These next pieces are also glued behind. I used the petal piece that is connected to color purple and glue to the back of my flower. Then, the two pink petals are glued on each side behind the purple petals. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 To finish the large flower, add the little piece that connects with the branches, and then go ahead and add it to your branches! Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574

STEP 4

Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 This step is easy! We are going to add a bud to our branches. You simply add the little bud piece and the connecting piece to that third branch. Perfect! You can absolutely mix and match large, small, and bud flowers in any way you like on the branches. Now that you have seen how they are assembled, go ahead and make any combination you like. You can even change up the colors if you choose. Don't forget to cut and color a lot of leaves! You can add these anywhere on your branches or scene. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574

STEP 5

Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Let’s make a background for our card. I’m using the Magical Fuchsia better press plate and pressing it into my black cardstock with no ink. I just want the impression of the image, without adding any ink. This will give me an embossed background. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Press the image into the cardstock, and then move the image to another spot on your background. Continue until you fill all the empty spaces on your paper, and you have the image patterned into your background. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 All done!

STEP 6

Next, cut some layers to frame your fuchsias with. I used some nested arch dies, and I cut a layer of gold cardstock to layer behind a smaller black arch. This will leave the black background for my fuchsias to shine against, but it will also give a gold border to the middle arch piece. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574

STEP 7

Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Adhere all the things into place. I added foam adhesive behind the arches, and then added the flowers with liquid glue, keeping them mostly in the arched frame.

STEP 8

Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 I added some gold watercolor splatters for more shimmer.

STEP 9

Foil and cut out the sentiment. I used a sentiment from the Better Press plates. Did you know you can foil with Better Press plates? It's so easy! You foil just the same way you would with Glimmer plates on your Glimmer system. Love that you can press OR foil with these plates! Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Add the sentiment wherever you want to place it using foam adhesive for some more dimension. That’s it! We’ve finished the card. Framed Fuchsias - Magical Fuchsia Collection, BP-349, S3-574 Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. I hope you love these Magical Fuchsia - they’re gorgeous, aren't they?
