Spellbinders Block Print Zodiacs: Hot Foiling & BetterPress Birthday Cards

Spellbinders Block Print Zodiacs: Hot Foiling & BetterPress Birthday Cards

Hello and welcome. I’m Gaylynn Martling, a lover of card making. It is an honor to share my creations with you here on the Spellbinders blog. I enjoy the fun technique possibilities using amazing plates, dies, stamps and fabulous machines. For today, I share three cards using both hot foiling and Betterpress inks. Some of my favorite things to make are birthday cards. The Block Print Zodiacs Collection provides the most unique and unexpected birthday greetings, customized to each person. What I like most about each set is the ability to add hot foil shimmer or colorful ink. Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647 For today’s trio of projects, I am sharing process photos for each card as well as the finished card. We will be using the press & foil plates as well as the corresponding registration guides, which are included with each zodiac set. First up is the Leo card project. Here is the finished Leo greeting card. I love how rich the copper hot foil looks over the Cosmic Sky cardstock. It shimmers so beautifully in person. I decided to use the exact press layout as the registration guide. Everything aligned perfectly to begin foiling the Leo and the sentiments all at once. Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647
  • To begin, make a photocopy of the Leo and Aquarius acetate guides to be used with the Glimmer Hot Foil System.
  • Simply, trim the copy leaving space around the edges, then temporarily adhere the registration copy of Block Print Leo onto the preheated Glimmer Hot Foil system, using Best Ever Craft Tape.
  • Add repositionable tape onto the back of the Leo and sentiment plates.
  • Temporarily place and adhere the plates over the registration guide copy, design side up.
  • Cover the Block Print Leo and the sentiment using copper hot foil (pretty side facing the plate design).
  • Place an oversized layer of Cosmic Sky Colorwheel Cardstock over the foil and tape it down.
  • Sandwich and run the Glimmer stack through the Platinum or Platinum SIX die-cutting machine (or compatible machine and plates). I used one shim with my foiling examples using the Platinum die-cutting machine.
TIP: Prevent plates from moving around when running through the die-cutting machine and when transferring the Glimmer sandwich. Keep them in place by adding repositionable adhesive onto the back side of the press and foil plates. Then wipe away the adhesive after the project is complete. Another option is to add a bit of the Best Ever Craft Tape over the plate if there are open areas to tape.
Peek at the Leo card process. Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647 Next, repeat the process using the Block Print Aquarius press and foil set, Violet Colorwheel Cardstock, and polished brass hot foil. Of course, the plates and colors can be changed to your preferences. Try to use colors that complement each other for the background frame layers. This example is another dark cardstock choice for hot foiling. Here is a look at the finished Aquarius card project. Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647
TIP: If you find there is over foiling, prepare the cardstock with an antistatic pouch or powder before hot foiling. Other solutions: Hot foil onto a larger cardstock piece and trim later. Trim down your hot foil film to fit closer to the plate. Play with your sandwich with and without a shim. Smooth cardstock works lovely. I used Colorwheel cardstock in these two hot foil examples. Additionally, if you get extra foil on the corners or edges, die-cut or trim down the focal panel instead of refoiling.
Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647 Additionally, we are going to create with the Betterpress Letterpress System using the press & foil plate Block Print Pisces. I wanted a variegated color look to the Pisces, and ink made that possible. Here is the Pisces finished card using Betterpress ink pads. Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647
  • This time, instead of hot foil, grab your favorite Betterpress or dye ink pads plus small blending brushes for color options.
  • Then, place the Pisces acetate registration guide face up directly onto the Betterpress Letterpress platform.
  • Add a touch of repositionable tape onto the back of the Pisces plate and sentiments to hold the plates in place.
  • Place and align the Pisces press and foil plate, face up, over the included acetate guide.
  • Add Betterpress ink colors to the plate using both direct ink pad to plate and also using blending brushes.
  • Use ink pad colors from Desert Sunset Betterpress Ink Set and Happy Betterpress Ink Set. Or choose your own favorite colors.
  • Die-cut the frame layers for each card project.
  • Adhere the layers using foam and flat double-sided adhesive or glue.
Lastly, here is the final process photo showing Pisces. I hope you enjoyed the three-card project. These cards were so much fun to make. Have fun crafting, and don’t forget to send out your cards to friends, family, and coworkers. Zodiac greetings two ways - press & foil as well as ink, BPR-044, BPR-038, BPR-039, S5-647 It has been a pleasure being here with you. Thank you so much for visiting here on the Spellbinders blog. I invite you back here for endless inspiration. It would be extra special if you would reach out to me on socials when you create and share something inspired by today’s projects. It would be great to see what you create so that I can give back the love. You can find and follow me at NeatThings on Facebook, @neatnook on Instagram, YouTube, and my Blog for crafty projects. One last thing. Tell us in the comments which of the Block Print Zodiacs would you gravitate to and why. I personally would love to collect them all for year-round, unique greetings. Spring and Easter Scene Cards with Simon Hurley’s Happy Spring Collection

Spring and Easter Scene Cards with Simon Hurley’s Happy Spring Collection

Hello, crafty friends!! Brenda Noelke here from My PaperCut Creations! I’m super excited to be a guest on the Spellbinders blog today!! I’m sharing two scene cards and a shaped card featuring the Happy Spring Collection designed by Simon Hurley!! This collection is absolutely adorable, and I can’t wait to create more cards with it!! TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432

HAPPY SPRING

I began by die-cutting the elements for my focal point using the Bunny Buddies Die Set. I used the following colors of Color Wheel cardstock: Tutu, Rainforest, Blush, and Raven, in addition to white cardstock. I added shading with gray dye ink and Kitsch Flamingo and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks using detail blending brushes. Each of the individual elements was adhered together using liquid glue. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 For the background, I stenciled the Layered Ornate Eggs Stencils onto a panel of white cardstock using Kitsch Flamingo, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, and Mermaid Lagoon Distress Inks. I spread pearl white stencil butter through the last stencil in the set, then set it aside to dry. The Ornate Eggs 3D Embossing Folder was embossed onto another panel of white cardstock. Once the stencil butter was dry, I trimmed the panel and adhered it to the bottom of the embossed panel. I added a pink and white polka dot ribbon over the seam, securing it to the back of the panel, before adhering it to a white A2 card base. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 The second largest stitched die in the Nested Postage Labels and Tag Die Set was cut from Breeze cardstock. I used the On Cloud Nine Dies (which have been discontinued, but any cloud dies will work) to die-cut some clouds from silver pearlized vellum and adhered them to the panel, then trimmed away the excess from the edges. That panel was then adhered to the background with liquid glue, and the adorable bunnies and accessories were also adhered with liquid glue. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 The sentiment dies are also included in the Bunny Buddies Die Set. The top layer was cut from white cardstock, and the bottom layer from Beeswax. They were adhered together with liquid glue, then popped up with foam squares. I added some Pink Color Essential Gems to each side of the banner and some Star Dust Stickles to the butterfly and centers of the flowers to finish this one off.

HAPPY EASTER

My second card also features Bunny Buddies Dies, Ornate Eggs 3D Embossing Folder, and the Layered Ornate Stencil Set. I started this one the same as the first card, by die-cutting the bunny and accessories from the same cardstock colors using the Bunny Buddies Die Set. I added a bit of dimension with dye inks and detail blending brushes, then adhered the die-cuts together with liquid glue. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 For the background on this one, I embossed a panel of white cardstock with the Ornate Eggs 3D Embossing Folder, then stenciled the Layered Ornate Eggs Stencils onto it with the same colors of Distress Ink that I used on the first card. Once the ink was dry, I used a sanding block to sand the raised areas of the cardstock away, exposing the white underneath. I trimmed the panel slightly and adhered it to an A2 panel of Blush cardstock. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 Dies from the Nested Postage Labels and Tag Die Set were cut from Breeze and white cardstock. I adhered white die-cut clouds and trimmed away the excess, then adhered the panels to the background. The grass and flowers were adhered with liquid glue, and the bunny was popped up with foam squares. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 Both layers of the sentiment were die-cut from white cardstock. I blended Mustard Seed Distress Ink onto the top die-cut, lighter at the top and darker at the bottom. The two layers were adhered together with liquid glue, then popped up with foam tape. Fashion Bella Pearls were adhered to each end of the sentiment banner, and Star Dust Stickles were added to the center of each flower. This one was finished.

HAPPY EASTER EGG SHAPED CARD

The third card is a shaped card that was created with the In Bloom Egg Die Set. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 I began by die-cutting a white top-folding A2 card base with the large open die, letting the top edge of the die hang over the folded edge. I then die-cut the outer die and the inside floral die from Seaside cardstock. The inside floral die was cut from Tutu, Rainforest, and Beeswax cardstock. Be sure to save all the inside pieces. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 The Seaside die-cut was adhered to the card base with liquid glue, then the detailed die-cuts were inlaid into the open areas. TWO SCENES AND A SHAPED CARD FOR EASTER, S5-749, E3D-169, STN-224, S5-635, S3-432 The sentiment is from the Bunny Buddies Die Set. It was cut from Tutu and white cardstock, layered and adhered together with liquid glue, then popped up with foam squares. A Fashion Oyster Pearl on each end of the sentiment banner and Star Dust Stickles added to all the inlaid circles completes this card. Spring and Easter Card Ideas with the Simon Hurley Happy Spring Collection

Spring and Easter Card Ideas with the Simon Hurley Happy Spring Collection

Hello there, Michelle Short here, and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog sharing three cards using the Simon Hurley Happy Spring Collection. This wonderful collection is perfect for spring and Easter cards, which is what I have created today, but a lot of the collection would work for all year-round cards too. Who doesn’t love a bunny on a card?! BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320

SPRING BUNNY

My first card uses Bunny Buddies, along with an older picket fence die to create a simple scene card. BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320 To make this card: BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320 TIP: I like to use either tweezers or an embellishment tool to help place small die cuts down. BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320

SPRING EGG

My next card uses Bunny Buddies again, but this time with In Bloom Egg. This is a great die as you can cut the floral pattern into the egg or leave it plain. You can also add the egg to a card base or create an egg-shaped card base like I have. BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320 To make this card:
  • Die cut two of the base layer of the In Bloom Egg from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.
  • On one, add a scoring line towards the top to create a hinge. At the bottom of the egg, cut a little off using a guillotine. This will help the card stand up nicely.
  • Add adhesive to the hinge and adhere to the other egg panel to create the card base.
  • Die cut base layer of egg die again from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock, but this time with the floral insert inside.
  • Pop out positive die cut pieces and adhere negative to the card base.
BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320 TIP: I adhered the pieces inside with Bearly Art Glue, but you can add a double-sided adhesive sheet onto the back of the cardstock before die cutting to create stickers with the die cuts. That way you can remove the backing and place them inside, like a puzzle, without having to add glue each time. BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320
  • Die cut Bunny Buddies bunny from Classic White and Blush ColorWheel Cardstock. Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue.
  • Adhere to card using thin foam tape.
  • Die cut ‘happy spring’ sentiment, the same as the first card, adhere together and adhere to the card so that the bunny is standing on it.
  • To finish, add Glossy Accents to the bunny’s nose.

EASTER BUNNY

For my last card, I’m using Bunny Buddies again but this time, pairing it with Ornate Eggs 3D Embossing Folder. There is a stencil that works with this folder, so that you can colour the eggs using ink blending, but I decided to go simple today and simply use it as a subtle background for my bunny. BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320 To make this card: BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320 BUNNY TRIO USING HAPPY SPRING COLLECTION, S5-749, S5-751, E3D-169, S3-320
  • Adhere panel to the white A2-sized card base.
  • Adhere sentiment to card, followed by grass above.
  • Adhere bunny and eggs on top with thin foam tape.
  • Embellish with Silver Mix Color Essentials Gems.
  • To finish, add Glossy Accents to the bunny’s nose.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects today. As you can probably tell, I really love those bunnies! I love that you can customise them to hold different objects – flowers, eggs, and even an Easter basket! Thank you so much for visiting today. I hope you have a wonderful day!
