Hello there, and welcome to day 11 of 12 Days of Stitchmas 2025! It’s Michelle Short here, and I am delighted to be sharing two cards with you today using the 12 Days of Stitchmas 2024 Advent Calendar.  What’s behind door 11? It’s an adorable bird! Watch the video tutorial below or on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/CUYMZ4aJeak

FA LA LA

For my first card, I am using just the 12 Days of Stitchmas 2025 Advent Calendar. I die-cut the bird from CascadeCosmic SkyRavenClassic WhiteChiffon, and Poppy ColorWheel Cardstock. SPOILERS! 12 DAYS OF STITCHMAS 2025 ADVENT CALENDAR – DAY 11 WITH MICHELLE SHORT, ADV-008, SCS-323, SCS-255, S3-464, S5-698, BP-199 I used DMC Light Gold Diamant Metallic Thread to stitch the wings and the tummy. He was then assembled using Bearly Art Glue. I took a 4.25” x 5.25” panel of Cosmic Sky ColorWheel Cardstock and added ink blending around the edges with Nautical and Pitch Black Core Inks. It was adhered to an A2-sized white card base. They were adhered to the card to read “FA LA LA”. I die cut the holly from Day 9, from Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock, and popped them behind the first ‘A’. The bird was adhered at the bottom using foam squares. To finish, I embellished with Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems, adding one to the bird’s tummy and the others scattered around the card. I also added three Red Color Essentials Gems to act as berries with the holly.

FA LA LA LA LA

For my second card, I die cut the bird using the same colours, but this time, I used Windy ColorWheel Cardstock for the wings and tummy, instead of Cosmic Sky. For the stitching, I used three strands of DMC 803 Floss. SPOILERS! 12 DAYS OF STITCHMAS 2025 ADVENT CALENDAR – DAY 11 WITH MICHELLE SHORT, ADV-008, SCS-323, SCS-255, S3-464, S5-698, BP-199 Before adhering the wing on the right down, I die cut the candy cane from Parcel & Post Christmas Decorations from Classic White and Poppy ColorWheel Cardstock. It was assembled and adhered, so it looks like the bird is holding it. For the card base, I added ink blending to a 4.25” x 5.5” panel of Cosmic Sky ColorWheel Cardstock using the same Nautical and Pitch Black Core Inks as I did for the first card. It was adhered to a white A2-sized card base. I hot foiled Mistletoe Greetings Press Plate onto Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock using Champagne Glimmer Hot Foil. It was die cut out using the coordinating die, and the ‘FA LA LA LA LA” one adhered to the card using foam squares. The bird was adhered on top, standing on the sentiment, using foam squares. To finish, I embellished with Gold Mix Color Essentials Gems. I hope I have inspired you today for day 11 of the 12 Days of Stitchmas 2025. Thank you so much for stopping by. I hope you have a great day and happy stitching! A Watercolored Starry Holiday with Dina Wakley

A Watercolored Starry Holiday with Dina Wakley

Hello friends, I’m Lorena Wakefield, and I’m so happy to be back on the Spellbinders Blog as a guest designer. Today I’m sharing a trio of festive projects featuring the absolutely gorgeous Dina Wakley Starry Holiday Collection. This collection is filled with whimsical, hand-drawn designs that translate beautifully into holiday cards, and it was such a joy to pair them with some of my favorite Spellbinders tools. I worked with BetterPress plates for the focal images and then added soft washes of color using Distress Inks as watercolors. The combination of crisp letterpress impressions with loose, painterly coloring gives these cards an artistic, heartfelt touch. Let’s take a closer look at each of them:

Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas Bird

A Watercolored Starry Holiday with Dina Wakley, BPR-034, BPR-035, BPR-036, E3D-152, S6-259, E3D-138 This sweet bird design on the “merry merry merry bird” registration plate completely stole my heart. I pressed it with the BetterPress system, then watercolored in soft brown and red tones for a warm and rustic look. I went over the beak and feet with gold watercolor for a bit of shine. The sentiment was completed with a die-cut “Christmas” from another Spellbinders set, layered onto a deeply textured background created with a Spellbinders embossing folder. The extra dimension adds so much richness without overwhelming the delicate art style.

Holly Wreath Merry Christmas

A Watercolored Starry Holiday with Dina Wakley, BPR-034, BPR-035, BPR-036, E3D-152, S6-259, E3D-138 This card was all about layering details. I began by pressing the sentiment Starry Merry Christmas in the center of a panel using copper ink. Next, I embossed the panel with the Stars and Fronds 3D Embossing Folder from the same collection for extra dimension. From the BetterPress plate set, I also pressed several holly sprigs in bright green ink, die cut them, and arranged them around the sentiment with small foam squares for a raised, wreath-like effect. To finish, I added rose gold flatback pearls over the berries for just the right amount of festive sparkle.

Starry Reindeer

A Watercolored Starry Holiday with Dina Wakley, BPR-034, BPR-035, BPR-036, E3D-152, S6-259, E3D-138 This reindeer image feels so magical! After pressing the design, I added soft brown and golden watercolor washes for the reindeer, and a wash of gray for the snowy ground. I kept the background minimal by pressing the delicate stars and half moon in versamark ink, then sprinkle them in silver embossing powder and heat set it.  The sentiment “cheer and good tidings to you” says it all. It’s peaceful, serene, and just right for sending holiday love. Working with the Dina Wakley Starry Holiday Collection has been such a joy. The artwork is playful yet timeless, and paired with Spellbinders’ embossing folders and sentiment dies, the possibilities for creating heartfelt handmade holiday cards are endless. Thank you so much for stopping by today, and I hope you feel inspired to give this collection a try in your own holiday crafting. Happy creating, Lorena Wakefield [spellbinders-supplies]BPR-034,BPR-035,BPR-036,E3D-152,S6-259,E3D-138,BP-001,LHCIP222,BPI-012[/spellbinders-supplies]
