Can I use my glue gun and glue sticks instead of Spellbinders Clear Seal Maker Tool and Clear Seal Sticks?

• We at Spellbinders took a lot of time, trial and error to find the Clear Seal Maker Tool and Clear Seal Sticks that is presented to you as part of our Sealed Wax Seal Program. It’s just the right combination of the perfect temperature of the Maker Tool, the ideal formulation of the Clear Seal Sticks and the opening that extrudes the material, resulting in a beautiful, clear wax seal. So many glue guns and glue sticks out there have varying temperatures, formulations and designs that can end up with different results.
• The opening of the Clear Seal Maker Tool that extrudes the Clear Seal Stick is bigger and you can usually make the “puddle” for the wax seal stamp with one squeeze of the trigger. Other glue guns require multiple pulls of the trigger which takes more time and effort and creates more air bubbles.

Can I use Spellbinders Clear Seal Sticks in my glue gun?

• As noted in the previous FAQ, there is no guarantee that the result will be comparable to the result with the Clear Seal Maker Tool and Clear Seal Sticks. Most likely the smaller opening in the nozzle of an average glue gun does not easily allow the quantity of material to flow for best results.

Why do I have to use a Glass Mat with the Clear Seal Maker Tool and Clear Seal Sticks?

• When creating a Clear Seal that will then be placed on another project, it is best to use a glass mat to achieve a clear seal. You can use any smooth glass mat, but we recommend the Sealed Glass Mat, WSA-006, which is 6.25 x 6.25”, the perfect portable size for a work surface. Make sure the clear seal is fully cooled before removing it from the glass mat to attach to another project.
• Creating a clear seal on a silicone or alternate (non-glass) surface will create a cloudy seal.

Can I create a clear seal directly to my project?

• When creating a clear seal directly on a project, whether a card, rub-on, photograph, tag, etc., a glass mat is not needed. You can extrude the Clear Seal Stick from the Clear Seal Maker Tool directly onto your project.
• If creating a clear seal with a smaller item where the seal extends beyond the item, do use a Glass Mat. Place paper/medium onto glass mat and create clear seal. Allow clear seal to fully cool and then remove the seal and adhere it to your projects using an Adhesive Circle (WS-075). The quality of Clear Seal Stick amplifies the artwork under your seal!

How do I clean the glass mat after creating seals with Clear Seal Maker Tool and Clear Seal Sticks?

• We found that using some Purell and a paper towel removed the excess clear seal drops and made the mat surface nice and clean to create more seals!

Can I use Clear Seal Sticks with the original wax bead warmer and spoon?

• No; DO NOT melt Clear Seal Sticks in the wax bead warmer. The temperature is too high and can be dangerous; it will also ruin the wax bead warmer spoon.

What are some other tips to create a clear wax seal?

• Once the Clear Seal Stick is extruded onto glass mat or project, immediately place wax seal stamp in place.
• Let it sit and cool down (have patience!). Rushing the removal of the seal before it is cooled can result in a cloudy appearance.
• When making multiple clear seals, cool down wax seal stamp (place against an ice pack wrapped with a cloth/towel). Use a cool area on the glass mat; we found that a cool stamp and surface help create a clearer seal.

What does Bullion Powder do?

• Bullion Powder is a pigmented powder that adds a metallic, shiny sheen to a wax seal, whether using the Clear Seal Maker Tool or a wax bead seal from Spellbinders Sealed Wax Seal Kit. Burnish either the Gold (WSA-004) or Silver (WSA-005) Bullion using the foam applicator that comes with it or your fingertip.

Can the Clear Seal Maker Tool be used as a glue gun?

• Yes, it can, but if using the Clear Seal Maker Tool to both to create clear seals and as a glue gun, it is recommended to only use Clear Seal Sticks. Also note to never try and pull a Clear Seal Stick (or glue stick) from the back of the Clear Seal Maker Tool in that it can irreparably damage the Maker Tool.

What are the sizes of the Clear Seal Sticks?

• The Clear Seal Maker Tool comes with 6 Clear Seal Sticks that are 3.94” inches in length. The 20 replacement Clear Seal Sticks (WSA-003) are 7.88” in length. The width of both are approximately 0.43”.
