Poppy Song Card Tutorial: Easy Embossed Background and Die Cut Flowers

Poppy Song Card Tutorial: Easy Embossed Background and Die Cut Flowers

Hello, crafty friends! Marie here again from Marie Nicole Designs. I have the privilege and pleasure to share a few bright cards featuring the Poppy Song collection! This collection has such pretty items to mix and match for making cheery cards with. I’ll walk through how I created the card with all the poppy stems, and also give some tips on the stenciled background card. Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122 Let’s get started!

Gather the Supplies

Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122 The main supplies used for today’s cards are these items from the Poppy Song collection. There is the Favorite Song 3D Embossing Folder, the Playful Stitched Panels, the Leaf and Bloom dies, and the set of 6 Petal Burst layering stencils.

Emboss a Background

To create a background, use the 3D embossing folder, Favorite Song. Just take a card background, add it to your folder, and run it through your die-cutting machine. Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122 The Spellbinder machines do have the instructions for embossing right on the platform for you to refer to, but I’ll also add it here. All you need to do is place the folder with paper inside on the base platform of your cutting machine. Then, add the D Adapter Plate on top, and run it through. This will add just the right amount of pressure to the paper to press that beautiful design into the cardstock. Cut a Front Panel

Use the Playful Stitched Panels and cut the second largest size from some plain white cardstock. This will give you a layering panel you can add over your embossed background. Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122

Cut and Color the Poppy Flowers

Use the Leaf and Bloom die set to cut out as many flowers as you would like. I cut my flowers out of white cardstock and then colored them by ink blending. I used a variety of reds, a yellow, and a green. Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122

Adhere Flowers to Front Card Panel

Assemble the poppies with just a little liquid glue, and then add them to the front card panel you previously cut out. I used a mix of liquid and foam adhesive to vary the dimensions of the flowers. I also left a vertical space blank for adding some twine later. Finishing Touches

Add the twine bow to the area left blank on the front of the card. Then, add some jewels or sequins. Lastly, go ahead and add a sentiment (or don’t, the card is pretty enough as is! A sentiment is up to you). So easy, and so pretty! I left much of this card clean white, and then let the poppies shine with a pop of color. BONUS CARD…

But what if you want a more colorful background? Go ahead and make a background with the stencil set! Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122 I used the 6-stencil set with these colors to create a beautiful and bold background. I also cut out the middle and popped it up on foam adhesive. Create a Garden of Poppies - Poppy Song Collection, S4-1512, S5-747, E3D-165, STN-122 You can then finish off the card with a sentiment and some jewels or sequins. Super simple! Go ahead and get creative and craft a whole set of these beautiful poppy cards. That’s all I have for today. Thanks so much for stopping by! Simple Poppy Card Tutorial with Leaf & Bloom Etched Dies

Simple Poppy Card Tutorial with Leaf & Bloom Etched Dies

Hello there, Michelle Short here to share a step-by-step tutorial with you using the new Leaf & Bloom Etched Dies from the Poppy Song Collection. This is a really pretty set consisting of three stems, three poppy flower heads, and a leaf frond. I kept my card very simple today to focus on the dramatic colour palette! DIE-CUTTING THE POPPIES

Die cut the Leaf & Bloom Etched Dies: HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274 Please note: the dies are shown in the photo facing upwards, so that you can see which die is cut from which cardstock. When die cutting, you need to have the cut side facing down onto the cardstock.
  1. Place two of the stems, as well as the flower centres, onto Raven ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  2. Place two of the poppy heads onto Mulberry ColorWheel Cardstock and hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.

  2. Repeat the process for the other stem.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Add small dab of glue to the centre of the flower head.
  2. Using Pick Up Tool, pick up the flower centre die cut and place on top of glue.
  3. Repeat the process with the other flower head and flower centre.
TIP: Die-cutting the stems twice and adhering the layers together adds dimension to the card. The flower heads will be adhered using foam tape, but the stems will be too small to add foam tape to.

DIE CUTTING THE CARD PANEL + ADHERING THE FLOWERS

HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Die cut the second largest die from Playful Stitched Panels Etched Dies from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.

  2. Adhere to card at the top of the stems.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Flip panel over and add thin foam tape to the back.
  2. Remove backings off foam tape.
TIP: I like to add a lot of foam tape to the back of panels. This prevents the card from getting crushed in the mail, but this can be done using layers of cardstock or foam sheets too.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Adhere panel to A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) card base made from Mulberry ColorWheel Cardstock.

STAMP + HEAT EMBOSS SENTIMENT

HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Place piece of Raven ColorWheel Cardstock into Mini MISTI and hold in place with magnet.
  2. Place ‘best wishes’ stamp from Lasting Impressions Sentiments Clear Stamp Set onto cardstock, impression side down.
  3. Close door of Mini MISTI to pick up stamp.

  2. Remove cardstock from Mini MISTI.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Apply White Detail Embossing Powder.
TIP: I like to apply the powder a few times, tapping off the excess in between. This ensures good coverage of the powder. I also like to use a coffee filter to catch the excess powder. This way, I can easily fold the sides up and funnel it back into the jar.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Remove any excess particles of powder (in places other than the sentiment) using a dry paintbrush.
  2. Heat set the powder using heat tool. You will know when it is heated enough as it will melt and go shiny. Make sure not to overheat the powder as it can turn grainy.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274
  1. Cut sentiment into a strip using the die from Always and Forever Sentiment Strips Press Plate & Die Set (or other suitable die) - place die on top of sentiment, hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape, and run through Platinum Six.
HOW TO CREATE A SIMPLE FLORAL CARD WITH A DRAMATIC COLOR PALETTE S4-1512, S5-747, STP-274

  1. To finish, adhere Berry Color Essentials Gems to the card using the Precision Tool.
Whilst the card is very simple in design, the bold colour palette of pink and black really add interest to the card. Thank you so much for stopping by the blog today, I hope you have a wonderful day!
