Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips

Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips

Hi everyone! My name is Melissa Phillips from @lilybeanmom. I’m delighted to join you today with a card tutorial using the new Essentially Yours dies. Creating beautiful cards with easy, effortless die-cut sentiments is a delightful way to add dimension and character to each card you create, so let’s get started. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 The Essentially Yours die cut collection includes sentiments such as Thank You, Thinking of You, Get Well Soon, With Sympathy, and more. Use these die-cut sentiments on their own or add an embossing folder and flowers for more personality. The choice is yours! Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Begin with an aqua card base measuring 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”. Using Distress Mix 3D Embossing Folder, run aqua card base through your die cut machine, sandwiched in your embossing folder. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 After embossing, using a sponge applicator brush, lightly add green and deep aqua ink over upper and lower corners of your card base, alternating colors in corners. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Add a 2” strip of patterned paper across the center of your card base. I used patterned paper from Rosie’s Studio Jubilee 6x6” paper pad. This simple step of adding in coordinating patterned paper is an easy way to add extra color and pattern. I use patterned paper on about each card I create and love this simple addition. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Use the 4th in size, arch, from the Perfect Touch Arches Etched Dies collection. Die cut from white cardstock and add to the center of your card. This provides an area of focus to your card and a perfect spot to add your die-cut sentiment. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Die cut Essentially Yours Thank You shadow die from pink cardstock, and the top scripted sentiment die from white cardstock. Adhere together in preparation to add to your card front. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Adhere completed die cut sentiment to the center of your card front. I like to use White Foam Adhesive Squares Mix - 1MM for this step because it allows your sentiment to pop from your card and adds an extra layering effect. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Die-cut a few florals to surround your sentiment. I used Mini Blooms and Sprigs after die cutting and coloring using sponge applicator brushes. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Adhere die-cut flowers around your die-cut sentiment, drawing your eyes inward toward your focal point and adding a pop of extra color and frill. Quick and Easy Die Cut Sentiments by Melissa Phillips, S2-314, S1-185, S5-649, E3D-155 Add a few scattered adhesive pearls surrounding your focal point and Crystal Stickles glitter to the centers of your flowers to finish your card. How to Make a Shaker Card with Sentiment Dies and Color Blocking

How to Make a Shaker Card with Sentiment Dies and Color Blocking

Hello, crafty friends, Marie here from Marie Nicole Designs. I’m so excited to be back on the blog to share with you a few shaker cards created with the Get Well Soon sentiment from the Essentially Yours Sentiments collection. Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 These are a group of frequently used sentiments that can be easily added to any card. I’m using the Get Well sentiment today, but there are also sentiments that say “thank you”, “thinking of you”, “happy birthday”, and more common sentiments. These sentiments also include the shadow cut-out die along with it, you can add a backing to the words or, like we are doing today, get a little creative and make a shaker element to your sentiment! Let’s get started!

Cut Out the Front Panel

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Cut out a piece of cardstock for the front of your card. I am using the Deckled Edge Script Edge Dies from the Beautifully Imperfect collection, but you don't need to use this! You can just cut a card-sized panel or use any other layer die you might have.

Create a Background

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Tape off a section of your background that you would like to ink blend. I am creating a color-block style background, so I taped off the bottom corner at an angle, and I’m using a beautiful blue for this first layer.

Ink Blend Another Color

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Add a second color by taping off another section and ink blending. I moved the first piece of tape up to cover the top edge of the first color-block area we blended. This way, I can ink-blend the second area without getting ink onto my first color, and I can have both colors meet on a crisp, straight line.

Cut Out The Shaker Window

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Use the outline die for the sentiment to cut out a window in your background panel. Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Since we are making this into a shaker sentiment, we will cut a window for the shaker element. I like to use a small piece of tape to hold the die in place while I run it through my die-cutting machine.

Add An Acetate Window

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Flip over your card panel and add a piece of clear acetate or plastic to the backside of the window. I like to use liquid adhesive around the edges of the window opening, so that all edges of the window are securely glued into place.

Add Foam Adhesive and Shaker Bits

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Add a strip of foam adhesive all around the shaker window. You need a little height to allow room for the shaker bits you choose, and you need to make sure there are no gaps in your foam adhesive. We don't want any shaker pieces falling out!

Add a Piece of Cardstock to Seal in the Shaker Pieces

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Seal in the shaker pieces with a piece of cardstock. I just used a scrap paper that was left over to adhere to the foam adhesive.

Add more foam Adhesive

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Add more foam adhesive to the back of the card and adhere to your card base. Since you already have some height with the shaker window, you need to support the rest of your card panel with more adhesive.

Add The Sentiment!

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Cut out the words of the sentiment that coordinates with the outline shape you used. We used the Get Well Soon for this card. Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 I cut my sentiment words out of gold cardstock, and then added drops of liquid adhesive to the backside and adhered it to the window.

Embellish!

Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Embellish the front of your card with some finishing touches like a flower, or a cute animal, or anything that you think your recipient would like. I am using a single poppy from the Poppy Song collection.

BONUS CARDS!

I love using these simple techniques to create sets of cards. I took the same shaker window and color blocking design and added it to a few more cards using these layered sentiments. Take a look! Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 Making Shakers from Sentiments, S1-183, S5-710, S4-1512 There really are so many fun ways to use these sentiments. Get creative! See what you can come up with! Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today. Until next time, Marie Nicole [spellbinders-supplies]S1-183,S5-710,S4-1512,SCS-123,PE-104,PCGO4E[/spellbinders-supplies]

  • Plate A – Platform Base
  • Plate B – Platform Top
  • Plate C – Cutting Plate
  • Plate C – Cutting Plate
The cardstock/die will be inserted between the two cutting plates with the die sitting on top of the cardstock, cutting side down.

Die Cutting the Oval Base and Assembling the Card

  1. Take the Essential Stylish Ovals Etched Dies and die cut the second largest die twice from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock. These two ovals will create the base card.

  1. Cut a small slither off the bottom of one of the ovals using a Guillotine Paper Trimmer. This will enable the card to stand up once assembled.

  1. Place the second oval onto a 12” x 12” Scoring Board and score a small line near the top of one end. This score line will act as a hinge when adhered to the other oval.
