Hi crafty friends! I’m Sheri Ballantyne, creator and long-time craft store owner of The Papercrafter’s Workshop in Whitby, Ontario in Canada. I’m so excited to get to share my new collection, We All Have Baggage, with you.
Life is not simple. We all have things that we carry around with us, things we face every day. Studies report that 1 in 4 women will experience symptoms of anxiety or depression in their lifetime. The challenges are real, and as a papercrafting retail store owner, I have seen it firsthand with many customers in our crafting community.
That’s why my first collection with Spellbinders was created around “baggage” – the emotional baggage we carry, represented by actual baggage. It’s designed to be a reminder to each of us that we all have baggage – but we aren’t alone. When the bags get too heavy, we have friends to help us carry them, and we can help our friends carry theirs in return. One thing that I have seen again and again in my 20 years in the industry is that crafters show up to lift each other up and help carry the load, no matter what.
RETRO SUITCASE DIE AND SENTIMENT STAMPS
Because this collection is about things we carry and the places we go to deal with it all, naturally, the cornerstone would be a suitcase, which can be personalized with paper, stencils and more.
The “suitcase stickers” show the positive things we’ve tried that have helped to make the journey easier – peace, love, happiness, tranquility. ROLLING CRAFT TOTE DIE
For many, crafting is a social activity. Whether in-person or online, we love to share ideas and engage with each other, providing much-needed support and connection. KEEP CALM SENTIMENT STAMPS
During the Pandemic and in the years that have followed, women have experienced a disproportionately greater impact on their mental health. Being in caregiver roles, facing family changes, career shifts, and more, we all look for calming, hands-on activities that will help us feel positive, productive and connected.
This stamp set, designed by Hero Arts to make a wonderful collaboration between brands, was created to coordinate specifically with the Rolling Craft Tote and Designer Purse dies, but can be used with any of the pieces in the collection. The sentiments were created to inspire lighthearted fun and work well to lift the mood of both the cardmaker and the recipient.

The 
Begin with a white card base measuring 5 1/2” x 4 1/4”. 
Line up stencil #2 with the corners of your cardstock base, and following the same directions as above, apply ink in a slightly darker pink.
Line up stencil #3 with the corners of your cardstock base and, using a deeper color of pink, purple, or red ink, apply color to the surface.
Line up stencil #4 with the corners of your cardstock base and apply ink in red. This pop of color will add just the right contrast with your soft pinks.
Now it’s time for the button centers of your poppies. Line up your final stencil and, using yellow ink, apply color to the centers of your poppies.
Use Ranger Distress Spritz in Kitsch Flamingo and Fossilized Amber to splatter droplets of color to your card base. Use a paintbrush and dip the tip of it into the unscrewed bottle of Distress Spritz and lightly tap the paintbrush with the fingers on your other hand to add splatter to your poppies.
Cut white cardstock measuring 11” x 4 1/4”, fold in half, and adhere the card front using liquid glue.
For the center, focal point of your card front, die cut vellum using the third largest rectangle from the 
Die cut a smaller, white cardstock rectangle using the second largest rectangle from the 
Adhere the smallest die cut rectangle over the larger, vellum die cut rectangle and adhere to the center of the card.

I like to use a sticky mat for my die-cut pieces. This allows you to add ink to those tiny pieces without them moving around on you. If you don’t have one of these, a paper towel also comes in handy. Using a foam applicator brush, apply green ink to the stems, pink to the centers of each flower, and yellow to each bloom.
Use liquid adhesive to adhere flowers, stems, and flower centers to the center of your card front. For added dimension, use foam adhesive to adhere the blooms. This will give them a slight pop off the base.
Use liquid or foam adhesive to adhere your sentiment over the stems and near the bottom of your white die-cut rectangle. Use pink sequins or gems to add a little sparkle to your card base. Add Crystal Stickles Glitter Glue to the centers of each flower and the leaves of your stems for added shine.
This finishes up your beautiful “Hugs” card, and now you’ve mastered the art of stenciling! What will you try next?
