Merry Mischief Cards Inspiration

Hi crafty friends! I’m Lea Lawson, the creator behind Lea Lawson Creates, where I share all things colorful, crafty, and joy-filled. I’m thrilled to be here on the Spellbinders blog today with a trio of playful holiday cards featuring the brand-new Merry Mischief collection! This whimsical release is packed with charm, and I couldn’t resist diving in with three festive designs that mix die-cutting, embossing, foiling, and a whole lot of personality. From a penguin in a scarf to Santa’s legs in a chimney (oops!), each card brings a little mischief and a lot of holiday cheer. Let’s take a closer look at how they came together! Deck the Paws card

Merry Mischief with Lea Lawson, SDS-211, BP-315 This playful pup is ready to light up the holidays! For this card, I paired the Deck the Paws stamp & die set with the Peppermint Twist press plate, which I foiled in shimmering Crimson Stars foil for a festive, candy-cane-inspired backdrop. The result? A cheerful, slightly mischievous holiday greeting that’s sure to bring smiles and sparkle to the season. Merry Mischief with Lea Lawson, SDS-211, BP-315

Cozy Waddles Card

Merry Mischief with Lea Lawson, SDS-210, E3D-146 These bundled-up penguins are bringing all the cozy vibes! For this card, I used the Cozy Waddles stamp & die set alongside the Season Sparkles 3D embossing folder to create a textured, wintry backdrop. A touch of Splatter White opaque watercolor adds that snowy magic, making it feel like these little friends are truly waddling through a winter wonderland. Chimney Caper card

Merry Mischief with Lea Lawson, SDS-212 The Chimney Caper stamp & die set brings the perfect dose of holiday humor, and that glitter metallic paper from the Antique Assorted Pack absolutely steals the scene—it’s like the snow is sparkling with anticipation for Santa’s grand (and slightly clumsy) entrance. I just love how the gradient sky with those twinkly embellishments (courtesy of the Aura AB self-adhesive jewels) makes the whole card feel magical and mischievous! Merry Mischief with Lea Lawson, SDS-212 These cards are a joyful celebration of the season—full of texture, shimmer, and playful charm! Whether you're sending cozy wishes or a giggle tucked inside an envelope, there's a little something here to make spirits merry and bright. I’ve got even more Merry Mischief inspiration waiting for you over on my blog today, and I’d love for you to swing by and take a peek! Create Merry Mischief: 5 Ways to Add Texture to Your Christmas Cards

Create Merry Mischief: 5 Ways to Add Texture to Your Christmas Cards

Are you ready for a little mischief? Do you feel like your Christmas cards are missing that extra something? It’s Therese Calvird here, and I have three Christmas cards to share using the fun Merry Mischief Collection. These cards feature adorable critters - a hedgehog, penguins, and a Christmas tree dog (literally!). And, while playing with these critters, it became clear that adding texture can turn a cute card into something truly magical.  Let me show you how… I’ve got five fun ways to add texture to these cards, plus a bonus technique! Create Merry Mischief: 5 Ways to Add Texture to Your Christmas Cards, SDS-211, BP-315, SDS-212, SDS-213, E3D-146, SDS-210, BP-312, BP-314, S5-494, S5-562

Why Texture Matters:

Textures give cards depth, invite the receiver to touch and explore, and make designs feel richer and more playful. There are so many ways to add them to your card designs, and today the focus is on easy and fun ways to bring these adorable critters to life.

Felt Accents

Soft and cozy, felt adds a touch that paper just can’t. On these cards, the Cozy Waddles penguins and Hedge-Hugs hedgehog wear felt scarves, and the Christmas tree is also made from felt. Note: The debossed details will not be as obvious as on cardstock, but they are still visible.
PRO TIP: Die-cut a piece of cardstock the same color as your felt and adhere the two together with a small amount of liquid glue. Test your glue first to make sure it doesn’t warp the felt - this little trick keeps your accents neat and sturdy.

Sparkle

A little shimmer goes a long way. Sparkling the edges of snow or highlights on critters gives the card a magical, wintry feel. Lightly paint along the edge of the snowbank with Sparkle Splatter Effects for a subtle shimmer. Other options include using a glitter pen, or for those feeling brave, a glue pen with fine glitter - just be prepared for a bit of extra sparkle cleanup! Embossed Background

A 3D embossed panel adds texture and tactile interest, giving your card depth and dimension. It’s an easy way to make a plain background feel special. The Season Sparkles 3D Embossing Folder is covered with baubles, stars, and snowflakes. To make the textured pattern really pop, lightly brush a bit of white ink over the raised images. Idea #4 Glitter Cardstock

Nothing says festive like glitter! Using glitter cardstock adds instant texture and sparkle. It’s an easy way to add shine without the mess. On these cards, check out the star on the Deck the Paws dog’s hat - and don’t miss those sparkly skates the hedgehog is wearing! Hot Foil

Foiled elements add eye-catching elegance with their shimmering texture. The Peppermint Twist Press Plate makes the perfect bold backdrop when paired with the Satin Pastels Glimmer Foil. Create Merry Mischief: 5 Ways to Add Texture to Your Christmas Cards, BP-315, SDS-211

BONUS Idea

Is it a texture?  You may not be able to touch it… but you probably won’t want to! Can you spot the shaker elements? They’re actually tiny bits of finely ground glass, adding visual sparkle, movement, and playful texture to the card. These Merry Mischief cards show that texture doesn’t have to be complicated to make a big impact. Soft felt, sparkling edges, shiny foil, glitter stars, embossed backgrounds, and playful shaker elements all invite the lucky person to notice, touch, and fall in love with your card. Thank you for joining me here today! You can find more from me here at Lostinpaper, and I look forward to your visit.  But first, I’d love to hear from you - let me know in the comments below which textural technique is your favorite for the holiday season! 3 Easy Cardstock Backgrounds

3 Easy Cardstock Backgrounds

Hello there, Michelle Short here, and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog using the Merry Mischief Collection. This is such a cute collection that is perfect for Christmas and the holidays! I thought the sets would work perfectly for some quick and easy cards with some simple backgrounds.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

My first card uses Cozy Waddles Clear Stamp & Die Set with a fun colour block background. This is an easy way to add both colour and interest to a card in a simple way. 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-210, SDS-211 To make this card: 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-210, SDS-211 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-210, SDS-211
TIP: If you didn’t want to worry about angles of the cardstock, you could simply add three strips across the card, or four squares in either corner and that would work well too.

SKATING BY

My next card uses the adorable Hedge-Hugs Clear Stamp & Die Set, along with Seasons Sparkles 3D Embossing Folder to create a base for the hedgehog to skate on. 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-213, E3D-146 To make this card: 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-213, E3D-146 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-213, E3D-146
TIP: For more definition on the embossing, you could add ink blending on top with a darker red ink. The ink would catch the raised areas and make them darker.

SANTA’S VISIT

For my last project, I’m using Chimney Caper Clear Stamp & Die Set. This time my background has a few more steps to it but it is still simple and easy to create. 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-212 To make the card: 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-212 3 EASY CARDSTOCK BACKGROUNDS, SDS-212
TIP: Using coloured cardstock as a base for ink blending really speeds the process up as you are not having to cover a whole panel with ink. I also find that it gives a really nice smoothness to the inks too! If you didn’t want to add the ink blending here, you could simply add the snow splatter to a dark blue cardstock base.
I hope you have enjoyed seeing my projects today, and I have inspired you to create some easy cardstock backgrounds. Thank you so much for stopping by, have a wonderful day!
