Hi Spellbinders fans. Alanna Moses from
EmbellishCraftLove.com and I am very excited to be guesting on the Spellbinders blog today. I am super excited about the
Glad Tidings collection from Simon Hurley and Spellbinders. It features three press plate sets, perfect for your holiday crafting needs. In this blog post, we will be using the
Betterpress system and cotton cardstock to get a letterpress effect, we will be using regular inks on cardstock to get a similar yet different look, and lastly, we will be using the press plates with the Spellbinders
Glimmer machine to foil them.
SENDING HOLIDAY CHEER
For my first card, I am using the
Ornamental Press Plate set. This is a registration set so it includes a clear guide to help you align the different plates. I love how easy the registration templates make it so easy to achieve multi-colored images. In this set, there are three press plates, one for the greenery, one for the ornament toppers, and one for the ornaments. I decided to ink each of the ornaments in different shades of blue, Coastal, Cosmic Sky, and French Blue.
After my inking was complete, I die-cut the panel using the
Perfect Touch Rectangles and Tag die set. I added it with foam tape to my card base which was created using
Cosmic Sky Essentials Cardstock and added in some
Capri Blue Color Essential Gems to finish it off.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
For my second card, I had fun getting inky. I first used the
Layered Full Moon stencil set and added the moon mask to my card panel. I then inked up the background using blues and purple inks with my Spellbinders Blending Brushes. I splattered the sky with Frozen Fog Distress Mica Stain. I then used the other stencils from the
Layered Full Moon set and added in the shading to the moon with some grey inks.
I then took the focal image which is from the
Santa’s Sleigh Press Plate & Die set, and I used my
Betterpress machine to press that plate with black ink. I pressed the sentiment and used the included coordinating die and cut it out. I die cut the panel using the largest die from the
Perfect Touch Rectangles and Tag die set. I added that to the card and then finished off the card by adding in some small pieces of confetti throughout the sky.

‘TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY
For my third and final card, I started by foiling the
Candy Cane Stripes Press Plate with red foil using my
Glimmer machine. After my panel was foiled, I die cut it using the largest die from the Nestabilities Label Eight die set. I added a piece of Onyx Color Essentials Cardstock with foam tape which was trimmed to be slightly smaller than my white A2 notecard.
I took the
Nutcracker Trio Press Plate & Die set and foiled the nutcrackers using Opaque White foil onto the same Onyx cardstock. I love how the Opaque White foil looks so crisp. I die-cut the images out and then added extra die cuts behind the images to add dimension. I added them to my Candy Cane-striped background. I then took one of the sentiments from the
Nutcracker Trio set and foiled it using the
Opaque Black foil. I die cut it out again adding extra die cuts behind it, added it to the card, and that finishes off this card.
