Hi there my Spellbinders’ friends! My name is
Jaycee Gaspar and I’m so excited to share three cards featuring
Yana’s Poppies by Yana Smakula. This collection features gorgeous poppy images in Yana’s signature die-cut outline style. Ever since I saw Yana’s
Anemone Blooms, I have been hooked by the distinguished look.
Speaking of distinguished looks, the set of BetterPress Plates, coordinating etched dies, stencils, and sentiments make for easy elegant cards. I decided to go bold with gold accents to complement these poppy designs.
Up first, I used both the
Yana’s Poppy die set and
Poppy Background BetterPress Press Plate for this black and gold statement card. I used the offset die and gold cardstock to act as the background to the black outline poppy. I die cut white cardstock in the same
Yana’s Poppy die set and used blue ink to create a Himalayan Blue Poppy. Nothing beats the elegance of
Hello, Friend Sentiments and
Wonderful Script Sentiments. You’ll see these glimmer foil and coordinating die sets together throughout my card projects. I used gold foil and black cardstock to match the Himalayan Blue Poppy grouping. Behind this cluster I cut apart the white outline leftover from the white cardstock I used to color with ink. I placed this behind the blue poppy. Then finally I arranged this focal point on top of a pressed panel from
Poppy Background BetterPress Plate without ink. I added black splatter to diffuse the focus of the black outline throughout the card panel.
For my second card I paired the
Hello, Friend Sentiments Hot Foil Plates with the
Wonderful Script Sentiments Dies. This time I took inspiration from another poppy-Lauren’s Grape Poppy. I had this one in my garden last year and it self-seeded this year for a shocking and stunning pop of this mauve throughout a section of my garden. I die cut the
Yana’s Poppy from gold cardstock and stacked four layers of this on top of a vellum offset layer. I colored white cardstock in a palette similar to Lauren’s Grape Poppy. I needed two of these sets of images to fill my panel. I cut the die-cut poppies apart to give the illusion of more images throughout the card front. It was easy to repeat these images for a more full-gilded wallpaper-inspired card.
Finally, for this last card, I went full shine with the
Poppy Background BetterPress Press Plate and Layered Poppy Background. I first used the BetterPress Plate and glimmer foil in gold to press a standard panel of white cardstock. Then I could easily use the
Layered Poppy Background Stencil Set to fill in a color the open white spaces with some ink. This time the inspiration came from Red American Legion and Iceland Poppies. I used blending brushes and ink to color the stencil layers. Since this card was full of shine, I wanted to make sure my sentiment stood out by cutting and pressing foil from white cardstock. I think this was the perfect balance to the full gold panel.
