Hello there, Michelle Short here, and I am delighted to be back on the Spellbinders blog sharing three cards using the Ski-son’s Greetings collection by Simon Hurley. This wonderful collection is perfect for Christmas and the holidays, but also all year round for those that like to ski and snowboard! I kept the cards simple, featuring lots of white space!

DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW

My first card uses Hit the Slopes Etched Dies, along with the fabulous Streamline 3D Embossing Folder. This folder is perfect for skiers but also anything that you want to show movement like sleds, snowballs, etc! To make this card:

• Die cut faces of skiers from Hit the Slopes Etched Dies from Alabaster ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Die cut hair from Fawn (left skier) and Truffle (right skier) ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Die cut boots from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Die cut ski poles from Silver Matte Metallic Treasured Cardstock.
• For the skier on the left, die-cut goggles, top, and skis from Waterfall ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Die cut gloves, trousers/pants, and scarf from Teal Topaz ColorWheel Cardstock.

• For skier on right, die-cut goggles, dress, and skis from Lavender ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Die cut gloves, trousers/pants, and a scarf from Lilac ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Assemble skiers using Bearly Art Glue.
• Place 4.25 “ x 5.5” panel of Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock inside Streamline 3D Embossing Folder and run it through Platinum Six.
• Adhere to the front of an A2-sized white card base.
• Adhere skierson top using thin foam tape.

• Hot foil Ski-son’s Greetings Sentiments BetterPress Plate:
  • Cut Opaque Black Glimmer Hot Foil Roll to size.
  • Place on top of white cardstock, shiny side up.
  • Place Ski-son’s Greetings Sentiments plate on top of foil, design side down.
  • Hold in place with Best Ever Craft Tape.
  • Place on Glimmer Hot Foil System platform, plate side down.
  • Press the button and wait until it goes solid green. Remove platform from base and then place back into base to reset the timer. Press button again.
  • When solid green, remove the platform from base, place shims on top, and run through Platinum Six.
  • Carefully remove the plate and tape from the cardstock, being careful not to touch the hot plate.

TIP: I like to heat the platform up twice when hot foiling press plates. It just sems to work for me but you may not need to. Experiment with what works best for your machines!

• Die cut sentiments out using coordinating die.
• Die cut die again twice and adhere die cuts behind foiled sentiments.
• Adhere 'dashing through the snow’ to card.
• To finish, embellish with White Enamel Dots.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME

My next card uses Ski Lodge Etched Dies, along with an older set to dress it up for the holidays! To make this card:

• Die cut Ski Lodge Etched Dies from Fawn, Truffle, Acorn, and Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Assemble using Bearly Art Glue, adding Best Ever Craft Tape at the back to hold the snow onto the roof.
• Die cuts trees from Rainforest and Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock, with the trunk cut from Truffle.

• Add Bearly Art Glue around the top edge of the snow on the roof, apply Iridescent Glitter on top, and tap off excess.
• Using ski lodge as a guide, adhere two trees to an A2-sized white card base using Bearly Art Glue.
• Adhere ski lodge on top with thin foam tape.
• Adhere tree trunk to three and then adhere tree to the left-hand side of the lodge.

• Die cut dog from City Holiday Etched Dies three times from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock. Adhere one on top of another and then onto the card on the right-hand side.
• Die cut wreath from City Holiday Etched Dies twice from Rainforest ColorWheel Cardstock. Adhere together and then onto the card at the top of the lodge.
• Die cut a bow from Pomegranate ColorWheel Cardstock and adhere to wreath.
• To finish, adhere ‘no place like home’ sentiment, from Ski-son’s Greetings Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set that was foiled when making the first card, onto card using Bearly Art Glue.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to combine sets! I knew I wanted something extra on this card, so I searched through sets that I already had to see what might fit size-wise. The wreath was too big for the door, but I thought it would look good hanging from the top of the lodge!

SO COOL

For my last project, I’m using Hit the Slopes and Streamline 3D Embossing Folder, but this time, combined with the trees from Ski Lodge. To make this card:

• Die cut snowboarder from Hit the Slopes Etched Dies Alabaster, Truffle, Raven, Cascade, and Cosmic Sky ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Adhere together using Bearly Art Glue.
• Die cut Essential Arches Etched Die from Classic White ColorWheel Cardstock.
• Place inside Streamline 3D Embossing Folder and run through Platinum Six, but this time, only cover the bottom half of the folder with the top plate. This will mean that only the bottom half of the cardstock will have the embossing on and not the top.

• Die cut two of the same Essential Arches Etched Die from Raven ColorWheel Cardstock. Add a score line about ¼” from the top to create a hinge. Add adhesive to this and adhere to other arch die cut to create card base.
• Adhere the embossed panel on top with thin foam tape.
• Die cut trees from Ski Lodge Etched Dies from Rainforest and Peridot ColorWheel Cardstock.

• Adhere trees onto card using Bearly Art Glue.
• Adhere snowboarder with thin foam tape.
• Adhere ‘you’re so cool’ sentiment from Ski-son’s Greetings Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set with thin foam tape.
• To finish, embellish with White Enamel Dots.

TIP: Using partial embossing is a great way to get more from your embossing folders. In some instances, it can really transform the look of the design by only having part of it showing!

Hi folks, Kavya from @handmadebykavya here with some fun inspiration for Ski-son's Greetings Collection by Simon Hurley.   I love playing with dies, especially ones that can be used in multiple ways. You will find that the collection is versatile as well! I have three cards for you today, all of which can be used for multiple occasions and not just for ski-loving friends!

Christmas Joy

My first card is perfect for Christmas and the Winter Holidays! I started off by preparing my card base using green cardstock. I ink-blended one edge of the cardstock using dark green dye ink and embossed it using the Streamline 3D Embossing Folder. I also splattered some white paint to give it a snow-like effect. Then, I created my main focal point by using the Nestabilities Scored and Pierced Rectangles Etched Dies. I matted kraft cardstock, honey colored cardstock, and pale pink cardstock to create the base. Then, I used purple and shades of blue cardstock to make the snow slope and trees. I hand-cut the snowy slope and die-cut the trees using Ski Lodge Etched Dies. For the skier, I used Hit the Slopes Etched Dies. I also added a string of lights using Ski Lodge Etched Dies. To make it look like it was snowing, I used white Nuvo Drops on top of the trees and skier. Finally, I added the word ‘Joy’ using Be Bold Uppercase Alphabet Etched Dies to finish off the card.

Ski-son’s Greetings

My next card is super simple to recreate! I absolutely loved how much depth the Streamline 3D Embossing Folder had, and I wanted to draw attention to it. I first started off by ink blending the top part of pale blue cardstock with darker blue. Then, I splattered some white paint to make it look like it’s snowing. Then, I embossed white cardstock with Streamline 3D Embossing Folder and cut a part of the cardstock to make it look like some snow slopes. I recommend using foam tape for some added dimension. Then, I added a skier using Hit the Slopes Etched Dies and finished it off using a sentiment from Ski-son's Greetings Sentiments BetterPress Plate & Die Set to finish off the card!

Summer Cabin Home

My final card is inspired by some vibrant risograph prints I saw at the art museum a few weeks ago. I felt like the chalet also reminds me of a summer cabin in the woods, so I decided to create a non-winter themed card that could be used for any occasion. I also skipped adding a sentiment for this reason. It could also make a nice little note card, too. I started off by die-cutting elements from Ski Lodge Etched Dies using pastel shades. For the meadows, I used Streamline 3D Embossing Folder. Yes, it doesn’t have to be used for snowy slopes! I used two shades of green for the meadows to give them some dimension. That’s it! I was so excited to see this new floral bouquet from Wendy and the stencil set to color it! I absolutely love having stencils like this! Then the Tabbed In & Out Sentiments Clear Stamp & Die Set is so great! Stamp a few sentiments at one time and die cut them at the same time! A basic must-have for embellishing and backgrounds is the Polka Dot & Posy Duo 3D Embossing Folder. The Essential Envelope Every Day Add-Ons Etched Dies are so fun, too! I especially enjoyed the tabbed envelope insert! I love how this card turned out using the Thank You Bouquet 3D Folder and Stencil Bundle. I inked using Distress Ink pads in Fossilized Amber, Spiced Marmalade, Peeled Paint, Gathered Twigs, and the mini ink blending tool, but brushes would work fine also. The Polka Dot & Posy Duo 3D Embossing Folder for the gold background panel and the Nested Postage Labels & Tag Etched Dies for the white postage layer.

An A2-sized card

The Polka Dot & Posy Duo 3D Embossing Folder makes an appearance again here on this card. An A7-size card panel embossed with the folder and then inked with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. The gold pocket die cut with one of the rectangle dies from the Nested Postage Labels & Tag set and then embossed in the folder with just the flower end. The Tabbed envelope inserts die cut, edges inked with Gathered Twigs, and stamped with messages from the Tabbed In & Out Sentiments Clear Stamp and Die Set. The floral pieces from the Thank You Bouquet 3D Folder and Stencil Bundle colored with the same Distress inks and technique in the first card. The above colors of Distress inks plus the addition of Picked Raspberry. A mini slim card size using the layering pocket piece, scallop border, and florals from the Essential Envelope Every Day Add-Ons Etched Dies, die cut and inked with Distress inks. I have a happy ink blending theme happening! The Thank You Bouquet 3D Folder and Stencil Bundle comes with the embossed Thank You and, once again, the Nested Postage Labels & Tags die set for the pocket inserts. A touch of Summer and a touch of Autumn in my three cards. I hope you enjoyed them. I know you will love working with this great collection from Wendy Vecchi!
